Sexual Health Week is here!

The theme is relationships, sex and disability. Brook wants a society where all young people are free to be themselves. We fight tirelessly every day for young people’s right to quality education and sexual health services so that they can take control of their wellbeing, enjoy healthy relationships and explore their identities. Sunflower Lanyard Scheme to be launched at Sainsbury's Penzance!
Our store will be offering a new service for customers with hidden disabilities. They can choose to use a sunflower lanyard so that we know they may require a bit of support.

We want all our customers to feel comfortable shopping in our stores but shopping may be difficult for customers with hidden disabilities like dementia or autism.  It can be hard for colleagues to know if a customer needs a bit of extra help, or if they would prefer to shop independently.

We have trialled this service in 39 stores, and there was great feedback from customers, colleagues and social media.  We are now going to be offering this service in all our stores from 1st August 2019.  We are aiming to launch it in our store by Monday 28th July.

What do customers do?

Customers will be able to ask for a sunflower lanyard from the Customer Service Desk. They do not have to use them if they don’t want to.  It is their choice.  We will never ask the customer what their disability is.

Sainsbury's trials new sunflower lanyard initiative to help customers with hidden disabilities

Sainsbury’s has announced the extension of a new trial to help enhance the shopping experience for customers with hidden disabilities. The initiative will offer shoppers the option to pick up a lanyard, which has been purposely designed to act as a discreet sign for store colleagues to recognise if they may need to provide a customer with additional support when in store.
