Boscastle Community Primary School
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Boscastle School we aim to provide a secure and happy learning environment where children as individuals can grow and learn. Learning is an interactive process, part of growth and not separate from it. It is not solely the acquisition of knowledge, but an understanding of how that knowledge can be utilised that is important.

We take the view that as children learn they need to develop their powers of reasoning and critical faculties, to evaluate as well as communicate their accumulated knowledge. Ultimately, children must be able to make sense of the world in which they live and be guided to do their own thinking.

Our professional understanding of learners is that we do not all develop at the same rate or at the same time. Learning is not linear or consistent in pace. We aim to achieve the highest quality of teaching to enable all children to attain high standards and to reach their full potential academically. We know that children acquire knowledge in different ways and that teaching styles must reflect this to avoid disadvantaging certain groups of learners.

We know that learning goes beyond academic achievement. Physical and artistic development are of equal importance as are the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of each child. We recognise and encourage qualities such as tolerance and perseverance throughout our school. We are an inclusive school and teach children to have regard for individuality and respect our differences and opinions. We encourage everyone to express their views responsibly and to accept that they may be challenged through discussion.

Within the curriculum must be a wealth of transferable skills which equip children for a future in an ever changing society. A broad and balanced curriculum is more likely to develop a socially balanced person who can respond and adapt to a constantly changing world.
