Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
I have 30 years of childminding Experience and attend regular training, I offer settling in periods where parents stay on the first visit, then on the second visit the child stays for an hour, then the week prior to parents starting work, the child comes for a morning or afternoon period. I discuss with parents routines and preferences prior to them starting. I complete a 2yr review with parents, so they can share with their health visitor.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
I have up to date training with the EYFS, I share daily diaries including the 2 year old Progress Check to highlight any additional support which may be required. I talk and listen to parents, I share information with other child care providers if the child attends dual settings.
- Links we have to other agencies
I take several children to different preschool, I use the Childrens Centre for up to date resourses, I have attended local Senco Network meetings, so have details of all our local contacts.
- How we support children transferring to school
I encourage shared learning between parents and preschool, I go on school runs with older children which gives younger ones experience of the buildings and routine.
I help children practice skills such as being independent going to the toliet and hand washing, getting changed and putting on thier own coat and shoes as well as encouraging their confidence in asking for help if they need it. Parents have asked for teachers to visit my house to see them interact with the other children.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
I have 30 years of experience and good understanding of children, I have up to date mandatory training in Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Child Protection, Food Hygiene, I regularly attend cluster/Pacey meetings and training opportunities to keep up to date and gain fresh ideas, I have attended other courses, eg Makaton, Epipen, WRAP.
I would make sure I had the appropriate training to meet the needs of any particular child.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
I encourage healthy eating, regular exercise and keeping clean
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
I complete daily diaries for each child to record all their developements, which includes photos, I have daily chats with parents also.
- Our complaints policy
I have access to the relevant authorities and up to date Complaints Procedures in place to share with all.
I display the Ofsted parents poster with Ofsted contacts details.
I give parents opportunities to comment on my service, welcome constructive critism and work with parents to resolve issues.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
We have recently updated the patio area for easy play, and artificial grass for all year round access to play, I encourage parents to access my house from the rear as the garden is all safe and secure, we have several steps but hand rails are easily accessible, we also have off road parking, but insist that parents reverse onto the drive, for safety reasons.
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have a ground floor bathroom with easy access for all, I ensure that all children have individual hand cloths which are washed daily, that they choose themselves and have individual hanging pegs for them, I have a step for use to reach both the sink and toliet for training purposes, I use a changing mat and gloves for babies which is kept clean between use by sterlising wipes.
Sleeping times, I have 2 travel cots which are kept upstairs with baby monitors with cameras and hearing aids which are used.
- Specialist resources we have
I have a range of resources for all age groups, to develop confidence and independance, I have a range of multi cultural toys, books including positive examples of people of all ages and abilities, I use the toy library to cater for needs and interests, I have a low level table and chairs for easy access and booster seats if required.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
I provide a broad and balanced range of activities to engage all children, to promote a sense of belonging and confidence, all trips are risk assessed and appropriate for the children attending based on their ages and individual needs, I plan trips with other childminders to offer extra support.
I have a people carrier with all the appropriate age related seats to cater for each individual child, I also have pushchairs, reins and High Vis jackets with my details on them for extra security when out and about.
