Wendron Pre School
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We are a sessional preschool setting, opening from 9:00 am to 15:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday, Friday term time only.

We provide care for children aged from 2 years 6 months to 4 years.

We aim to ensure that each child is in a safe and stimulating environment.  We have a high ratio of qualified staff to children enabling us to provide generous care and attention for each child.

All our staff hold level 2 or 3 qualifications and are trained in Paediatric First Aid.

The provision for children's development and learning is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage.  Our provision reflects the four overarching principles of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We work closely with outside agencies who provide extra support for children with additional needs.

Our staff regularly update their training profiles, by undertaking regular courses, such as 'Makaton' training, 'Visual Support', 'Behaviour Management' and 'Inclusion'.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We have a discussion with parents/carers before the child starts to highlight any concerns. We undertake initial assessments of all children. 2 year progress checks are completed with parents/carers. Each child is allocated a key worker who works closely with the child and their family.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

By talking to the parents/carers and getting to know the child. We use 2 year progress checks and ongoing observations to highlight if a child is on target for the prime areas of learning.

Links we have to other agencies

We are supported by the Early Years Inclusion and Improvement Team, Health Visitors and Speech and Language Therapists.

How we support children transferring to school

We have strong links with the local primary school. We invite local foundation stage teachers to visit the Pre-School.  Weekly visits are arranged to Wendron Primary school during the last half of the the Summer Term.  During these visits the children will spend the morning in the reception class. They will take part in activites and get to know the teachers and school routine. The children, parents/carers are invited to stay for a school lunch.

If a child is not going to attend Wendron Primary school, we will encourage a visit from the reception teacher of the school they are going to attend. We also ask to visit the school with the child's keyworker.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

Paediatric First Aid, Makaton training, Food Hygiene.

We have an experienced member of staff who delivers weekly music and movement sessions.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We encourage children to be independent and get ready to start school. We help them to use the toilet independently, washing their own hands, putting on their own coats and shoes. We encourage children to make healthy eating choices at snack time and lunch times.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We offer regular meetings with parents. Staff are always available to speak to parents/carers regarding any issues with their child's progress.

Our complaints policy

Speak with the setting leader. If not resolved put the complaint/concern in writing to the setting leader and the chair of the committee. If still not satisfied, request a meeting with the setting leader and chair of the committee. If an agreement is still not reached, an external mediator is invited to help resolve the issue. When the mediator has concluded investigations, a final meeting is held between the parent, the setting leader and the committee's chair person. Parents may approach Ofsted directly at any time during the complaints procedure.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We have a new build which is all on one level. and can be accessed by wheelchairs. There is a slope to enter and leave the building. This also leads to an outside area which has tarmac as well as a new all weather area.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have a disabled access toilet.

Children's toilets are in a cloakroom to the side of the pre-school room. The toilets and sinks are the appropriate height to allow children to manage their own personal needs.

Specialist resources we have

N/A at the moment but, we would try to access any specialist resources as and when they were needed.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Risk assessments are carried out, and we ensure that staffing levels are adequate, enlisting parent helpers where appropriate.
