ABC Childcare - Claire Williams
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At ABC Childcare Ofsted have graded our setting and care as Outstanding (October 2018). We offer a fun and exciting, child centred, social learning environment for local children.
ABC is a home based child care setting that meets the needs of all who attend. A provision which is inclusive with an equal opportunities focus, enabling children to feel at home and able to have fun, whilst developing into independent, confident, individuals.
We are committed to flexible working hours to meet parental needs, including anti-social shift patterns, evenings, weekends and overnight care where possible.
We offer a child led approach, supported by adult led activities, when considered necessary.
We would love to discuss the care needs for your family and try and assist if current vacancies allow. Please get in touch to find out more and come and see us in our home care environment.

Where to go
St. Columb Major
Being a town house, we have a large playroom, but we also use the lounge, kitchen and garden. We also have one room registered on the top floor for overnight care.
Being in a three storey town house, access would be limited to permanent wheelchair users, however we pride ourselves on our inclusive nature. Claire has a level 2 qualification in British Sign Language and has worked in orphanages in Nepal and Romania, so although not fluent in other languages has experience of multi cultural living, societies and providing care for children of all abilities.
At ABC Childcare, we treat each child as an individual and with equal concern, making sure that each child has an opportunity to develop and learn. We will do everything possible to make every child feel welcome in our setting and reach their full potential, whatever their gender, race, religion and cultural background, home language, family background, and/or ability
We hope to encourage children to believe in themselves and allow them to see that everyone has the potential to achieve.

Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
I work closely with all parents, and quickly establish working links if the child is in multiple settings. I will happily liaise with health visitors, but first and foremost work closely with the child and their parent/s.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
I complete a starting points assessment within the first 2 weeks of any child joining the setting and will conitually review and update progress against the EYFS.
- Links we have to other agencies
I have in the first 6 months of trading had links with children's' services, 3 nurseries, parents and am awaiting four different 2 year check appointments for children with their health visitors to enable an informed input into their progress and development within our setting
- How we support children transferring to school
We will (with parents consent) pass any tracked progress and learning journeys to school reception at the point of transition. Also if earlier/extra meetings and settling sessions are arranged to support a childs needs with the transition, we can accompany the child and their parents or send necessary information, dependant on the needs and best practices for that individual at that time
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
I am trained to level 2 in British Sign language. I am awaiting a new date for the councils SEN training. I have volunteered with the British Red Cross for many years including on projects about diversity, equality and assessing needs and feel this is a solid foundation for the SEN care I may be supporting within our setting. I have also worked in orphanges over seas which entailed a kaleidoscope of SEN situations
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
I will assess, monitor and track children's starting points and progress and development.
I will liaise with parents and if appropriate health care and educational specialist
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
Termly reports, daily texts/pictures, 2 year assessment check, learning journeys
- Our complaints policy
I have a policy entitled 'Allegations of Abuse against a Childminder, assistant or others living on the premises' and a further one entitled 'Other concerns or complaints' which can both be viewed upon requested
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
I have red/yellow/green face flash cards for a child or young person to share their current mood. I have Makaton signs and flash cards throughout the house. I have purchased child specific resource based on current need within the provision. I have coloured overlays to assist children and young people with accessing written materials if required
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have a downstairs bathroom and changing mats transferable between floors. There is an accessible shower on the ground floor if required.
- Specialist resources we have
We have numerous resources, flash cards, communication aids, dyslexia overlays, books in different languages. We would also happily purchase any specialist resources that were considered relevant and appropriate if it would assist the growth and development of one of our mindees
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
All children are part of the decision making process about the trips we will attend that day.
At times I have increased ratios to ensure safety and opportunities to meet individual needs for all on that day
We are inclusive and where possible offer same opportunities to each child, even if at times this requires some adaptation to the expected routine
