Sarah's Childminding Services
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Coronavirus status: Open for key workers and vulnerable children

I have been childminding for over 16 years and feel we provide, for all the children in our care, a loving, home environment and all the special things that living in the beautiful County of Cornwall can offer.

I have an NVQ Level 4 in Children's Care, Learning and Development and accredited to deliver Early Years Education to 2, 3 and 4 year olds.  I have undertaken numerous EYFS training courses and continue to do so to ensure I continually improve on practice. I am a Member of PACEY and PACEY Local.  My husband is also a Registered Childminder & I have two full-time Assistants working with me.  Both have relevant childcare qualifications.

We have a large secure rear garden with substantial grassed and patio areas.  Assorted outdoor play equipment including a large two towered wooden play frame with playhouse, slide, swings and Fireman's pole. We have a Mud Kitchen, sandpit, wooden playhouse, assorted ride on toys and large trampoline with safety enclosure.

We love to take the children out and about on a daily basis with the children dressed in weather appropriate clothes.  We have annual memberships to many local attractions & attend them regularly during term time and school holidays, eg National Trust gardens and properties, Dairyland, Gweek Seal Sanctuary & Sealife Centre, Screech Owl Wildlife Park, The National Maritime Museum, Falmouth, The Eden Project, Trebah Gardens, Newquay Zoo and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. We attend numerous local activities regularly such as Frogpool Tadpoles Toddler Group, Raze the Roof and One2eleven.  We also have a weekly music and movement session held at the setting by Hickory Dickory Rock.  You can view our activities on our Facebook Page: Sarah's Childminding Services (in Crofthandy).

I have ICP, Paediatric First Aid Certificate, Level 2 Award in Food Safety & Catering, Safeguarding Children training (updated annually), Makaton Sign Language, Heuristic & Outdoor Play Packages.  We have a dedicated Daycare Room which is bright, colourful and interesting.  Large range of toys, books, games, role play and arts & crafts for all ages. Sky TV, DVD, Playstation and computers with educational software. We also have a dedicated After School Club room.

At my last Ofsted inspection in July 2015, I obtained Good in all areas.  We own a 9 seater Renault Traffic, fully fitted with seat belts and all height appropriate car seats & booster cushions in line with current legislation.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We have a Special Educational Needs and Code of Practice in place which ensure record and monitor a child's needs.  We ensure the provision for a child with a SENCO which matches the nature of their needs.  We also work closely with staff from other Agencies such as local and community health services.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We work closely with parents to keep fully informed about their Child's needs.  We compile Learning Journals for each child with regular Learning and Development Record Sheets to identify and support children's learning and development needs. We will keep Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with special educational needs. Information on the IEPs is discussed fully with the patents.

Links we have to other agencies

We work closely with Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Speech and Language Therapists. They regularly visit children at our setting and we are keep fully advised of the current care plan for each child.

How we support children transferring to school

We provide Individual Development Records to the school the child will attend.  Our relationship with Reception Class Teacher at the local school is a close one.  Children mix freely in the setting with children who are already at school.  When they start school, they are already familiar with older children.  Children are taken on school runs. Once a child starts school, they often continue at the setting for Breakfast and After School Club and will discuss their school experiences.

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I have personally attended many courses provided under the EYFS.  One member of staff has a FdA in Childhood Education and a BA (Hons) in Human Behavioural Studies.  Her studies included specialist training in this area.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We ensure the activities carried out at the setting are varied and in particular we ensure there are a variety of physical and outdoor activities. For instance we regularly visit Raze the Roof, Gym Club at Mitchell and Moo Music - Music and Movement Sessions.  Also Trelissick Gardens, local beaches, Godolphin House. We ensure the children's diet is varied and in particular those who stay for evening meal with receive a nutritious and wholesome meal. We have a Health. Hygiene and Medicines Policy which we use to establish children's awareness to good hygiene by teaching them about the importance of hand washing, teeth cleaning, nose wiping and the disposal of tissues and the spread of infection through coughing, sneezing and using the toilet properly.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We speak to parents on a daily basis when they drop off and pick up their child.  We have a Facebook page on which we parent can view their child in activities whilst at the setting.  We compile Learning Journals for the parent with Learning and Development Record Sheets.

Our complaints policy

We have a Complaints Procedure in place.  It is of utmost Importance to us that our childminding services run smoothly, efficiently and that parents work with us for the child's best interest.  All complaints are treated confidentially.  All positive and negative comments will be recorded and stored in our Complaints and Appraisal File.  All our Policies and Procedures are provided to our parents and they sign to confirm their agreement.

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We have altered the access used by children to the setting both front and rear to make them wheel chair friendly.  We also enlarged the area available for parental parking. We have also provided a slope onto the grassed area in the garden.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have specialist nappy changing equipment. We have a nappy bin which individually wraps each soiled nappy.  We have steps to help children to use the toilet and wash their hands.  The sink taps in the bathroom are child friendly. Soap and individual drying towels are used and disposed off after one use.

Specialist resources we have

We have a dedicated Daycare Room and a room set aside for After School Club.  We also have a large, age appropriate wooden climbing frame in the garden.  We have many toys and books which cover the age range of all the children in the setting.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We only undertake activities that are appropriate for the children attending the setting on that particular day.  We take the number of cars required with age appropriate car seats to ensure children are transported safely.
