Wiggles Day Nursery
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We have two bright, light & sunny playrooms; a nursery room and a pre school room, which open directly into our wonderful enclosed garden. Our nursery room is fully equipped for children 0-2yrs where we cater for their individual needs in a comforting and caring environment. We carry on the same ethos of ensuring the children are comforted and cared for in the Preschool room however, we also ensure we provide enriched activities and resources to enable the children to build up their independence and gain a thirst to investigate and learn. We are also very lucky to have the school grounds which include a huge field perfect for balls and parachute games and a tennis court where the children like playing with the bats and balls. We also have a wonderful woody corner which offers our children a change of environment and resources.
Our dedicate and highly qualified team of six practitioners ensure the children have age stage appropriate toys and activities and resources inside and outside to meet their individual needs. The children's needs and interests are always paramount to our planning which engages the children and gives them a thirst to learn and explore.
All of our team are regularly undertaking training to ensure we are all implementing the newest information possible. We also ensure we are all First Aid trained and are all updated with Safeguarding training.
Finally we like to work very closely with you as parents and carers. We believe you are the first educators of your children and we ensure we build on the foundations you have already laid from day one. We use Tapestry which helps us to communicate daily with yourselves and you can see what you child has been learning and taking part in that day. We also encourage parents and carers to add to Tapestry so we can learn what you child likes, see what they have been doing and share any special moments with you.

Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
We have an observation and assessment system which we follow every day. This enables us to identify if a child is meeting their developmental stages. Behaviour is also monitored and close engagement with families is followed through to offer continuity of care between the nursery and home. We use Makaton and visual pictures to enable even the reluctant/quiet talkers to communicate with us and express their needs.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
We follow the EYFS observing assessing and planning each week for the individual child, within the larger group. We recognise children's likes and dislikes and use this to attract them to learning environments, to encourage their development. We enrich our environment with teaching and learning possibilities and encourage co-construction with our children to challenge and development them further.
- Links we have to other agencies
We have strong links to the two local primary schools. We welcome speech and language therapists to work with us. We attend all three of the EYFS conferences every year to network with other settings, and have invited other settings to visit us, and spend time in our setting. We have strong links to the local colleges and University and offer placement opportunities to students currently studying level 3 and EYT. Finally we are very proud of our Nursery, and we are always happy for anyone to visit us and have a chat.
- How we support children transferring to school
We have transition activities with Wadebridge Junior school, we also take the children to and from there everyday, and involve children who will be attending there in the future. We meet with our other feeder school, and exchange cohorts and child profiles verbally and written. They do a nursery visit, and home visits which seem to be very successful.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
All of our staff have Safe Guarding training, First Aid training and Food and Hygiene training. We also have Senco training, and we all attend Senco cluster meetings regularly to keep up to date with changes.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
We carry on most of our nursery day outside of the rooms in the garden, and the grounds of the school we are within. We believe children thrive on experiential experiences and these can be found in abundance within the outside environment. We walk a group of children to school and home to the nursery every day, and we serve fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the day along with healthy snacks and a hot two course meal at lunchtime. We promote an environment of care and kindness, to help children to feel valued and safe. We have policies which guide our judgements on ailments and illness.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
We talk to our parents every day, as they drop off their children and pick them up. Here at Wiggles we have an open door policy for parents to stay any time they wish to see their child is happy and gaining the very best opportunities from our nursery environment. We use nursery communication books with the under two's to be sure parents have all the details of their child's day. We use Tapestry to show the parents what their children have been taking part in that day and also how they are developing. We also have a newsletter once a term, which goes out via email and as hard copies directly to our families. We use accident, incident, head bang, and medication forms to inform parents. We regularly send out questionnaires to our parents to ask for their support in evaluating our practices to be sure to be meeting their needs.
- Our complaints policy
We take every complaint seriously, and see that this is dealt with in the appropriate manner. This means following our complaints policy, and making sure the most appropriate outcome is achieved. We make sure to take the opportunity to value peoples complaints as a potential development vehicle, to assist our practice to become more effective for our families.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
The school which we have direct access to has a lift in reception which assists wheelchair users to access the building effectively. We have child accessible toilets, but none of these things are alterations - these were already available for our use.
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have two children size toilets and a nappy changing area to allow for privacy and comfort.
- Specialist resources we have
Our main asset at Wiggles is the team members. They are the very best asset a nursery could have. All the team are trained at level three or above. They are fantastic at creating resources to use where they are needed for the individual child. We have a very large garden, and the school grounds we can use to able, run, skip and play in. We have the gym in the school which is available to us after school hours. We are invited to all school performances which is always amazing.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
We have a school mini bus which we are lucky enough to able to use for trips. We do our level best to include everyone, by liaison with their parents, and finding out what adaptions we need to make to our planning and execution of a trip to include everyone. Sometimes parents have come along with us to make this possible.
