Little Dolphins Pre-School
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Within Little Dolphins Preschool we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and have developed our own curriculum to suit our individual child’s needs. Our aim is to provide a safe, happy, caring and enabling environment where our children are encouraged to learn and play through exploration, child initiated activities and adult led activities to ensure a fully enriched curriculum.

We have the benefit of an outdoor area in which we have a garden area, mud kitchen area, summer house, slide, obstacle course and a large area to ride bikes and play ball games and many other outdoor activities, our indoor area we constantly update around ensure it’s a inspiring learning through play area.

The team are all qualified and have years of experience in Early Years. They are a dedicated team that ensure the best practice for the children who attend our setting. During our recent Ofsted inspection we are very proud to say we gained ‘Outstanding’.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

All children are allocated a keyworker when they start at our setting. The keyworker is responsible for completing learning journeys these contain observations, our children's work, termly monitoring sheets, home achievements forms, two year old progress checks, baseline and our initial profiles. Observations are carried out through written and photos, these are used to assess all our children's learning and their stage of development. We are then able to ensure we provide progress and next stage programs to meet our children's individual needs. This will also show us when any extra support and help is needed to ensure our children achieve their own individual goals.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Termly tracking system alongside regular discussions with parents and carers. Keyworker discussions on a daily basis and termly meetings with parents and carers ensures any positive feedback or concerns are discussed. Writing and reviewing Individual Education Plans where necessary, attending Team Around the Child meetings where needed. Our SENCO team share information with our parents/carers. The cohort tracking system also shows us any child who need extra support. We also use the ECAT monitoring tool which enables us to identify speech and language needs. We have weekly staff meeting that ensure that our observation/assessment and planning are achieving the individual goals of each child.

Links we have to other agencies

We have links to Senior Locality SENCO team - locality 2, Early Years Inclusion Team, Speech & Language Therapists, Health Visitor, Educational Psychologist and the Portage Services. We also have excellent links with all the teachers at Godolphin Primary School.

How we support children transferring to school

We have excellent links and communications with the reception class teachers in Godolphin Primary School. The teacher comes into our setting throughout the year and our main transition programme is initiated in the summer term. We go into the reception class twice a week for story and play activities. Our children also join the school for lunch at least once a week. We have a Teddy bears picnic which is enjoyed by children and parents. We share our learning journeys and assessment with the teacher so they have an all round understanding of each individuals child's needs, interest and abilities.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

Four of our staff have level 3 qualifications. All staff are qualified in Paediatric First Aid. One member has trained in Makaton. Staff have received Child Protection and Safeguarding training. Our SENCO team attend network meetings. We all receive 24 hours each of training per year to develop our knowledge and skills to ensure our continuous development as a Preschool. Our team of staff have years of experience and are dedicated to the children and parents that join our setting. We continue to reflect and ensure that we implements the best possible learning through play journey for each individual child.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We liaise with parents through daily chats, termly meetings and our sharing diaries. This ensures that we have all the relevant information so that we can support the different needs of our individual children. We complete our two year old checks and continued observations. We promote healthy lifestyles and eating within our short/medium and long term plans and through our policies.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Our informal daily chats and termly meetings enable us to inform parents of any developments and concerns. We use our Learning Journeys to encourage parents to add comments and we use Sharing Diaries so parents can celebrate their child's achievements or interests at home.

Our complaints policy

We have an effective complaints policy in place in line with the statutory guidelines and procedures that parents are able to see or request a copy of. We also display an Ofsted poster which contains the relevant contact details that parents can use. Our main aim is to resolve any concerns at the first instances as all staff are friendly and approachable.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

The Preschool is in a large room on one level within the Primary School and has access through the main door and through the Preschool side entrance.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have two toilets and hand wash basins for children and a nappy changing area.

Specialist resources we have

Resources are adapted and provided to meet the needs of each individual child.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We have a high ratio of adult to children of 1:2 or 1:1 if required to ensure all children and included in all our activities and trips. Our Preschool ensures all risk assessments are completed.
