Nicholls, Mrs Sharon Julie
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

I have been a childminder for 29 years.  I have 3 grown up children of my own that live locally. I live at home with my husband, We are a non-smoking household.  I offer a home-from-home environment.  I have a large, enclosed garden where I have a good selection of swings and slides, as well as bikes and other outdoor toys for the children to play on. I have attended various courses that are relevant, to keep me up-to-date with childcare.  I hold Child Protection and Paediatric First Aid certificates.  I also belong to a local child-minding group, where we meet with other children and childminders for toddler groups and outings to many of the local attractions during term time as well as school holidays.  Most mornings we are out, and return home by lunchtime so the younger children can have a nap after lunch.

I childmind from 7am to 6pm and I'm registered to mind overnight, if required. I have many references from past and present parents and I encourage new parents to come and visit my home to see me at work with the children, as well as speaking to the parents of the existing children. My last Ofsted inspection I gained a Good report.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Observations are recorded and linked to the EYFS guidelines. I plan activities according to the child's interests and encourage next steps.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

I speak to the parents on a daily basis about the child's development and work together with parents to encourage progress in everything their child can do and record their progress and next steps in learning.

Links we have to other agencies

If I have concerns, I would speak to the parent and we would together decide whether a referral needs to be made, generally this is through the child's health visitor or the Cornwall Early Help Hub, who has links to other agencies who would be able to support their child as well as the help from myself.

How we support children transferring to school

I would pass on any information that is relevant to the child's development if the parents wishes me to speak to the teacher.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I keep up to date with regular training that is relevant to my child minding.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I encourage healthy eating, each day we are outside doing some sort of activity e.g. parks, walks or drop in centres where the children are socialising with other children and adults.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

I have close relationships with all my families and exchange information on a daily basis, by speaking to them, as well as sharing photos during the day by email, as to what activities their child is taking part in

Our complaints policy

I have a complaints policy in place which I share this information with parents

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

I have off the road parking on a driveway to the front of my property with one low step to enter my home. I have a large conservatory which the children play in and is assessable at ground level.

Facilities we have for personal care

Changing mats, wet wipes. I keep a clean bathroom and children are taught how to wash hands before meals and after using the toilet.

Specialist resources we have

I have highchairs, car seats, buggies, harnesses or what ever I think the individual child may need while I'm caring for the child

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All children are supported and included in all activities, outings . Risk assessments are carried out and the relevant equipment is available and used.
