Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

I offer settling-in sessions of which the parent may stay on the first session. An informal discussion will be held to gain information about the child's likes, dislikes and what they are able to do. The parents will also have a starting point questionnaire to fill in. A two year progress report will be complied to share with the health visitor and a copy for their learning journal.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Learning journals are completed for all children and trackers are highlighted to show what stage the child is at with their development. I use the EYFS to plan for each child's next steps in their development. Learning journals are shared with parents and daily communications are had to explain what the daily routine has been and how the parents can support with the child's development at home.

Links we have to other agencies

Feedback from the health visitor is asked for when the 2 year old progress check takes place.

How we support children transferring to school

School runs takes place with the older children which helps the younger children to be familiar with school building and grounds. We talk and read stories about going to school as well as developing their independence with self care like going to toilet, washing hands, getting changed and being confident to ask for help when needed. Transition report on each child is completed for the school.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I ensure my first aid, safeguarding children and food hygiene training are kept up to date. Should any other training be needed in addition to all the courses already completed then the relevant training will be sourced to aid a child's developments or needs.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

Good hygiene routines are practiced within my setting. Daily exercise takes place within our routine like playing in the garden, parks, walks, exploring the local country woods. Children are encouraged to talk about how they are feeling and what actions of other makes them feel. Road safety is learnt and practiced when out and about. My setting has been risk assessed and reviewed on a regular basics, fire drills are practiced and when out a first aid kit is present and visual risk assessments are carried out. My setting is home based and provides a cosy, caring and home like place to support and nurture a child's development.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Daily talks happen when a child is dropped off and collected. If needed communication may occur via a text message or telephone call during the day. Learning journals are completed for every child and available to view any time as well as being encourage to take home every term. Parents are also encouraged to add to the learning journals. Questionnaires are given out to be completed by parent for feed back on both my practice and the child's development.

Our complaints policy

Parents are always welcome to give feed back whether via an informal chat or when the questionnaires are sent home. I do have a compliments and complaints book which is available for parents to fill in. I have on display the Ofsted parents poster for their information. My policy on complaints is given to all parents for their information and records.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Access to my home is made via two steps with plenty of light and parking.

Facilities we have for personal care

In my setting I have a down stairs toilet and if need a step for the children to get on the toilet easier as well as potties and changing mats. These items are cleaned with antibacterial wipes and sprays.

Specialist resources we have

I have a wide range of resource to aid development such as books, lights up toys, musical instruments, musical toys, ride on, pull along, construction toys, fine motor skill resources and multicultural resources. Weekly routine consists of trip to playgroup and the library.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All activities and resources are adapt to suit ages of the children. Car seats are provided to match legal requirements of the child. Outings and activities are carried out by myself and some times within a group of other childminders.
