Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
An Ofsted registered 'Outstanding' setting - Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids was launched in 2001 and has continuously provided a high-quality childcare service to our families. Fit 'N' Fun Kids strives to go above and beyond the minimum standards set by Ofsted, regularly reflecting on and developing practice and provision. The embedded ethos ensures that a warm, caring and nurturing atmosphere is consistently established, creating a home from home environment for our children and families. Our experienced, qualified and passionate team, ensures that parents feel confident leaving their children within our care.
Our commitment towards providing high-quality care and provision has been recognised regionally and nationally. Fit ‘N’ Fun kids have received a variety of childcare and business awards, including being the only UK childcare providers with the Gold Standard IiP accreditation (data 2012). In addition to receiving awards, we also strive to implement best practice through achieving additional accreditations, such as ‘Millie's Mark’. This provides recognition of our dedication towards keeping our children safe, ensuring 100% of our team are Paediatric First Aid trained and receive regular updates and refresher courses around this.
At Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids we guarantee a fully trained, dedicated and caring team of staff, who will place your child’s welfare at the centre of all that they do. Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids values the importance of caring for our staff and supporting personal growth and professional development. This ensures that our practitioners remain competent, skilled and confident in their knowledge that they are providing the best for your child. Many members of our team have been here for lots of years, showing their commitment to childcare. We also support and promote our staff to achieve further qualifications through apprenticeships and further studies. As a setting we care for our staff as much as your children and this is important to us, to ensure our environment is a happy one for all.
As childcare providers we are fully aware that, as a parents’ most treasured gift, every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years, experiences provided between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. The combination of good parenting and high-quality early learning, provides the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.
In the current economic climate, being a stay at home parent is not necessarily an option for most families, therefore, we feel it is essential that we provide a safe, caring and home from home environment to work in partnership with our parents. Our setting provides flexible care and provision, meeting the individual needs and requirements of our families. We get to know each and every family well, establishing trusting relationships and sharing feedback relating to your children’s achievements and experiences daily. This is provided both face to face and via our online learning journey app. The memories and achievements captured and added to your child’s online learning journey, becomes a story of their time at Fit N Fun Kids, and a memento of their learning and development to treasure for years to come.
Your child will have their own key worker, this will enable a meaningful partnership with a practitioner to be formed, providing comfort and trust. This partnership is essential for your child, and also yourself as a parent, to feel assured that your child is emotionally secure and confident to explore the nursery environment. The key worker system is in place throughout the setting, which ensures that your child’s transitions throughout the setting over time, are handled sensitively. We provide carefully planned settling sessions before transferring rooms, which enables a smooth transition gradually changing key person and routine. Your child’s key person will provide the personal, social and emotional support needed for your child to become an independent young person, ready to embrace the new challenge of school by the end of their pre-school year with us.
Look at life through the eyes of a child and you see wonder everywhere. Even ordinary things hold extraordinary promise. At Fit N Fun Kids, we look at every experience as an opportunity for learning, and we surround our children with interesting and stimulating materials and activities that help develop balance, confidence, motor skills, language, communication, maths; the list goes on…
Because children learn most effectively when they’re having fun, we focus on learning through purposeful play. Playful learning can exist in many forms – child-initiated, adult-led, individually, within a group etc. Our team enhance learning through providing support, prompting children to develop thinking, using open questions and encouraging children to overcome any challenges experienced throughout the day. Your child’s key person will identify each stage of your child’s development and support them through every fascinating and exciting adventure, enabling development at their own pace. We embrace child-led learning, which ensures all of our children are interested, motivated and captivated by the experiences we develop and explore together.
Our setting embraces the wonder of nature and outdoor learning. Every room has access to the garden and outside play areas, which are equipped with age appropriate equipment of the highest quality. With the help of our children we have developed a vegetable and herb garden, to support knowledge around growth and environmental sustainability. We also regularly provide the opportunity for our children to experience forest school and beach school, to enhance exploration of the natural world and develop self-confidence and social interaction. In addition to this, we offer an indoor soft play room and sensory room.
We understand that finding the right setting for you and your family is extremely important. For this reason, we warmly welcome you to come and visit our setting, whilst recommending the importance of viewing other setting too, to ensure you make the right choice for your family.
We were rated as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in August 2017.
We will always go above and beyond to ensure we deliver the high-quality childcare service we promise and always welcome constructive feedback.

- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
We work closely with our parents in settling our children into the setting and gathering information about their child. A baseline assessment is undertaken within the first month of the child settling with us. This baseline assessment indicates the stage of development the child is currently at and with regular observations, we will track the child's progress to ensure they are meeting their developmental milestones and at which time, we will be alerted to any additional supported needed. We have strong relationships with external agencies where we can access further support if required and also ensure our staff attend regular training in all areas of child development to support needs.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
All our teams support the individual needs of our children. This is undertaken by a key person who is assigned to each child to observe and track their progress. We follow the EYFS and Charcertistics of Learning and record this in each child’s individual Learning Journey. Photographs are taken and added to the Learning Journey that capture the exciting and important moment of each child’s development. We work with an ethos of right here right now which means that although we undertake medium and long term planning, we can adapt this for each individual child, each session, based on what is happening right now in that child’s life and/or what is happening in the world around them. Such planning is put together knowing what each child’s next step is and adapted each session to support and develop each child’s individual needs. If necessary this also ensures that we access internal and external support from professionals to meet additional needs, all of which is undertaken with parental consent.
- Links we have to other agencies
We have strong relationships with external professionals and assess their support when necessary and with parental consent.
- How we support children transferring to school
We prepare our children for the transition to school by liaising with Reception Teachers of our local schools. This includes inviting Teachers to our setting, our Early Years Teacher visiting each school, supporting visits with children and parents to taster sessions prior to leaving our setting. Our Early Years Teacher ascertains the learning the children will undertake in relation to number work and phonics to ensure that we are preparing them for a smooth transition to school and a new learning environment.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
At Fit N Fun Kids, training and continued professional development is key to ensuring our staff are kept up to date with childcare knowledge. This includes internal and external training, bespoke to our setting around leadership and management and child related practice. We work closely with high quality settings around the UK to ensure we share best practice and also work with a Childcare Professional to ensure our training, particularly around safeguarding, parental engagement and staff development is of high quality. When required, our staff have accessed specific training in relation to the needs of the child. Full details of our staff training can be provided.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
This setting has access to an outside area which we will use as a free flow option. This space allows children to move and enjoy physical activities, experimenting with different resources. Educating the children on how exercise make them feel and why this may be.
We monitor closely the children's emotions, in particular following lockdown, monitored absences, attachments and relationships and within our child-led learning, embed the children's understanding of their feelings and emotions.
Providing healthy snacks and encouraging and educating parents around healthy eating options.
Within the curriculum, incorporated in the planning each week would be educating the children on how to develop independence, awareness of their own needs, managing risk.
Encouraging and modelling positive interaction and relationships.
We work closely with our families and signpost to further areas of support.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
Parents play a key role in their child's development and we ensure we are inclusive in sharing each child’s progression both in the home and at the setting. We do this by forming strong, open relationships with parents, this is initially developed by the settling in sessions, providing the opportunity to get to know our families. Parents are given the opportunity to stay with us during this first session, using this time to share information about their child's experiences etc. and this enables parents to ask questions during this important time. We evaluate the impact and experience of settling in sessions and provide further follow ups in the first few weeks to ensure parents feel they have been included and consulted. We provide daily feedback verbally and also update FAMLY (nursery software) and our social media platforms / parent closed groups regularly to support forms of communication. Parents evenings are held termly, where children's learning journey, progress, next steps and the support we are providing are shared and discussed. We also invite parents to celebrate learning and achievements, holding events and activities, such as sports days, pre-school graduation, Christmas nativities, to showcase how we have supported our children's development and provide the opportunity to share this with the parents. We have an open-door policy and always ensure we are available to meet with parents as and when required. This includes ensuring the Deputy and/or Day Care Manager are out of ratio at key drop off and collection times to be available to talk with parents. In addition to this we send out a monthly newsletter to keep parents updated.
Throughout the pandemic our channels of communication have been adapted so as to reduce face to face consultation and more use has been made of our FAMLY nursery software, zoom meetings, website updates etc. Our latest parent survey has shown this to have been 100% effective.
We will continue to update our risk assessment and setting operational procedures on line, adapt in line with government guidance, regional restrictions, Public Health advice and Local Authority guidance as well as our own internal communications and parent feedback throughout the pandemic.
- Our complaints policy
Customer Service is key to strong relationships with our families and we take any complaint very seriously. This includes always ensuring we fully investigate any complaint and liaise with parents in line with our policies and procedures but more so to reduce the stress of the parents that may have a concern or complaint. We aim to ensure we satisfy any parent bringing a complaint to us.

Our setting is designed to be inclusive and fully accessible. This includes our transportation services to ensure there are now barriers to families accessing our provision.
