Cornwall College - St Austell Additional Learning Support for learners studying on cross college provision – universal / targeted
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Our vision is to develop independent, confident and resilient learners who are well prepared to engage with the wider community.

Cornwall College St Austell offer a wide range of support needs, the type of support you may have will depend on your individual needs, for example:

  • You may need in-class support which means you will work with a Learning Support Practitioner (LSP) within lessons.
  • You may only need some help in lessons so could work within a small group and with an LSP to support where needed.
  • You could access drop-in support in our ALS Base.
  • You may work with the intervention team and have weekly contact to give you more support with reading, writing and other literacy skills.
  • You may require support with your social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) and any behavioural support.
  • Your support will be reviewed regularly and we will involve you in this review at all times.

We work closely with all learners applying for a course to identify their needs early and support transition to college as seamlessly as possible.

When you are at college you will have lots of staff that can work with you. You will have a Study Programme Manager (SPM) who you can talk to if you need any help with anything, and can request learning support if it is needed. You will also have access to an Engagement and Progression Officer, whose role it is to support learners with any concerns outside of the classroom.

We have access to lots of different specialists at our college, such as:

  • Learning Support Practitioners
  • Study Needs Assessors
  • Study Needs support
  • Engagement and Progression Officers (EPO)
  • Access to external agencies and specialists

If you have a specialist person you need to work with on a regular basis, we can help you to do this as long as relevant funding is available. If we don’t have the specialist staff internally we will try to out-source this for you.

Student Voice is very important to us at the College. If you think your support needs have changed then please speak with your Study Programme Manager and they can contact the Learning Support Team. On a bigger scale, student reviews will be held throughout the year so you can share your opinions on the whole college.

As a college we offer independent careers advice which is available to all learners and can help when you are looking at your options after college.

Our courses also include discussion and activities to support your progression either on to further learning, a supported internship, an apprenticeship, a job or independent living.
