Barbican Pre-School (Nursery)
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We are fortunate to be in purpose built premises attached to the Looe Children's Centre which allows us regular contact with other childcare professionals. Our room is open plan & leads to our outdoor play area. We offer a free-flow approach alongside supported activities throughout the morning. A cafe-style snack time is available. Staff are warm and caring and regularly attend training. We work closely with parents & other professionals & look to extend childrens learning through community spaces and activities.

We tailor our teaching to suit the child as an individual and believe that every child has the right to an exceptional, caring and fun start of the educational journey.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Observations and assessments and 2 year old checks

Keyworkers work closely with parents/carers and any outside agencies.  Regular cohorting and monitoring of children which is shared at daily meeting to all staff to ensure staff are aware of every childs next steps.  Additionally, next steps are discussed at weekly staff meetings to ensure individual childrens learning and development can be planned for, including additional support.

The keyperson identifies the support that is needed and this is shared with all staff.  The environment is planned accordingly to cater for a range of needs.

We have a named Child Protection Officer

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We follow the EYFS and each child has a Learning Journal.

We also share our building with the Looe Childrens Centre and have good links and support, as well as working with professionals from the early years team.

Links we have to other agencies

We have links with speech therapist, health visitors and other professionals as appropriate

How we support children transferring to school

We carefully plan with children, parents, staff and the local schools during transition.

We have close links with the local schools to discuss transitions, enabling all children and parents to be fully supported throughout the transistion period.

The local primary schools and teachers visit the children in our setting during the transition stage.

Specialist skills or training our staff have

Our staff are trained to level 3.

We promote exercise and healthy eating with children and parents.  Any child who has individual needs would be catered for as required and if necessary staff would attend any revelant training to help support.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Staff are available to speak to parents each day to update on the days activities and have termly consultations with a keyworker to discuss development and progress in more detail.

Home diaries are available and we send out regular newsletters.

Parents/carers are encouraged and welcomed to stay and help in a pre-school session during each term.

We also update the Learning Journals on the Tapestry which parents can acccess online and conrtribute to.

Our complaints policy

Our complaints procedure is displayed in our foyer.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

The pre-school building was purpose built in November 2008 with accessibility a prime consideration. No further alterations have been necessary.

Specialist resources we have

Sensory tent, light tube amongst other sensory items

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We are heavily supported by parents and work on a high adult to child ratio.  We adopt a minimum 2:1 ratio on trips and outings.

Parents/carers are encouraged to come along and join in on these trips.
