Ryn Gwari Farm - Nursery, Pre-School & Forest School CIC
Welcome to Ryn Gwari Farm.
We are a rural childcare setting based on a small-holding near St Just. We care for up to 15 children per day. We accept children from 10 months old to school age for 44 weeks of the year. We are a Community Interest Company and profits at the end of the year are invested back into improving our provision or supporting families.
We offer childcare from 8.30 am-5.30 pm Monday to Friday.
We are a small team of 6 adults. We are all passionate about Early Years care and education and we work really hard to provide the best possible experience for your children. All our staff have been working in education for most of their careers and have lots of experience!

Our Day
Our day is made up of free-flow play and smaller group time. During free-flow play, the children can choose to play indoors or outside or a mix of both. Indoors we have a cosy book corner with wood burner. We have games and toys readily available for the children and an art activity on the arty table. Outside, we have the trampoline, sand-pit, water-play area, vegetable garden, Mud Kitchen, Polytunnel, Blue Boat and lots of opportunities expend physical energy.
For our smaller group time, we are in our pre-school (3 & 4 year olds) or nursery groups (under 3s) and we do our planned activities and group activities such as singing, dancing, yoga and art.
We ensure that all children spend time both indoors and outdoors during the day and we make sure the children make the most of the large garden area. We provide a daily sensory activity where the children can explore different materials, for example cornflour gloop, shaving foam, glittery paint, flour and water, sticky chia seeds! It usually gets very messy!
The children all come together for snacks and lunchtime. At the end of the day we share a group story time together.
Most children do a day of approximately 9am - 3pm, but we always have a smaller group before and after this too.
Learning & Development
We promote the children’s learning through thoughtfully planned activities and routines. We work to support the children’s development in the seven areas of learning as described in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and we also work to promote their well-being and involvement. The children’s interests are at the heart of everything we do, we follow their lead and provide activities to support the next steps in their development. We will work with you to promote your child’s learning and development at home. We are here to talk through any concerns or difficulties you may be experiencing, we are available to chat anytime or we can come and see you at home.
Animals
On our small farm we have 3 sheep, a pony, a mule, a cat and a dog called Piggy! Piggy is very much a part of our setting and the children love her. She is very gentle and loves to be cuddled and stroked, she also love chasing a ball. The children sometimes help to feed the animals.
Forest School
We run weekly Forest School sessions for the pre-school children all year round. We have a designated area at the top of our farm for Forest School. Sessions are lead by Beccie, she is a Forest School leader and is experienced in running sessions for all ages from babies to teenagers. Ali also leads Forest School sessions.
Settling In
We understand that it is a very sensitive time for everyone when your child starts a new childcare setting. We work with you to develop a settling in route that goes at the pace you and your child need. Therefore there is no set routine! However, as a guideline, we usually invite you to visit with your child to play and meet everyone a couple of times at least and then once you feel your child is happy to stay with us for a short play session we can arrange this. We usually keep the first few stays short and build up to a half day or full day. Your child will have one of our adults as their “key person”. The key person will be involved in the settling in from the start and work to build a trusting and fun relationship with your child to ensure they will feel secure and happy with us. Your child's key person will offer you a home visit to chat more and build trust with your child.
We look forward to welcoming all the family to our setting. If you have any questions just ask, we are happy to talk about anything!

- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
Lots of time and attention and well-being for all the family!
We are a setting with an extensive outdoor area and we believe that this helps the children to regulate their behaviour and be immersed in nature and all its benefits.
We also have animals that give extra comfort and extend the children's empathy towards other beings.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
For children being monitored and on our SEN register, we do regular meetings with parents. We also value our daily chats with parents and make sure everything is recorded.
For children on our targeted support they will have an Assess, Plan, Do and Review (APDR). We will have behaviour plans and Individual Learning Plans for the children.
- Our complaints policy
Complaints are dealt with as per our policy and recorded and reported to Ofsted if required.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

- Facilities we have for personal care
We have a basic set up for personal care. However, this could be improved if needed.
The children use a small caravan toilet or potty.
Adults use a compost toilet that is accessed via 4 steps. We are looking to improve this facility.
