Durnin, Mrs Michelle
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
I am married with 2 children - 29 & 26 years old.
We have 1 dog and 1 tortoise.
We live in a dormer bungalow with a large enclosed garden to the rear. There is a bricked area for bike play, sand and water etc, and a large lawn with outside play equipment.
The playroom has toys & equipment suiting all ages and abilities. We are lucky to have a large kitchen/dining room for painting, cooking & messy play.
I meet up with other childminders regularly ensuring all the children I care for have a varied and rich choice in social skills & the ability to meet and make lots of new friends. We spend quality time in our rich outdoor surroundings. We often visit local attractions e.g. Newquay Zoo, Heligan and Eden. We also visit the beach regularly.
Craft is also a big part of our weekly activities - helping children achieve all activities to their best ability and ensuring children never feel they have failed & are proud of their individual achievements.
There is a park in the village & lovely walks.
I have been a childminder for over 26 years and previously I was a nanny. As a family we do family based short break care for children with additional/special needs.
My setting is very much child/play lead and we all enjoy new & exciting experiences which each child & their family can introduce us to.
I have completed many courses and update my qualifications regularly.

Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
I gather informtaion from parents and from observations of the child. I carry out a two year check and make assessments through out each term. I can provide two and three year funding as required.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
I have done makaton training and use pecs if required. I have also attended positive behaviour training and communication training. I also attend further training sessions regarding all areas of learning throughout the year for my professional development. I have also attended alot of training as a Short Break carer, giving me a good grounding in other areas.
- Links we have to other agencies
I work closely with physiotherapists, speech and Language therapists, social workers and any other person/specialist required for the best outcome of the children. I work closely with the nurseries and pre-schools the children attend.
- How we support children transferring to school
I support children's transitions by providing detailed assessments and reports for parents to share with the school. Prepare the children for transition to school by making sure they are emotionally prepared and ready for school. Assist in transition sessions to school where possible.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
I have worked with Social services for over 21 years caring for children with additional needs, so have gained quite a knowledge on various areas. I have achieved EYP, Level 3 NVQ Childcare, Learning and Development, attend SENCO cluster meetings termly, network with other childminders regularly to share advice. I attend regular sessions to physio with children and other therapies as needed.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
I offer a safe and secure home environment for all the children, that is risk assessed and checked regularly. My safe guarding and paediatric first aid training is up to date and constantly updated as required. I offer to attend physiotherapy sessions, speech and language and any other training that will benefit individual children with in my setting.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
I provide daily diaries for all pre-school age children to inform them of what their child has been doing, what they have eaten that day, nappies etc. I send home pieces of ART work and we share WOW moments. I am available to parents to chat or arrange a time to chat when ever suits. Parents and I discuss where we think a child should be developmental wise and areas that need extra help and where they are exceeding too.
- Our complaints policy
A complaints policy is in place and shared with all parents. Ofsted poster/phone number on display board in the playroom.
