Trelowan Preschool
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Trelowan Preschool provides early years care and education for children aged between two and five years old.  We operate from our own designated building on the Penryn School campus and are an experienced team who are passionate about children's learning & development.  Through purposeful play we aim to provide a stimulating environment where children can develop and grow in confidence, building a firm foundation of skills that are essential for their "school readiness".  In addition to our experienced team, we are regularly joined by other professionals to promote the children's learning and development in areas such as Ball skills, rhythm and movement, french and yoga.  We spend most of our preschool day outside and have a large, secure outdoor play area where children are encouraged to explore, experience and enjoy the natural environment.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

It is our policy to meet the individual needs of all children who attend our setting. Our SENDCo Team will work with parents and outside agencies to ensure that all children in the setting get the best from their preschool education, therefore enabling them to build a firm foundation of skills that are essential for the next steps in their school journey.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Through observation and assessment our experienced team are able to respond and adapt to a child's individual needs. We work closely with parents and outside agencies to ensure these needs are being met.

Links we have to other agencies

We work closely with outside agencies such as the Children's Development Centre (CDC), the Early Years Inclusion team, Speech and Language therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Visual impairment support, Teachers for the deaf and Portage.  In addition we are members of the Early Years Learning Alliance (previously the Preschool Learning Alliance).

How we support children transferring to school

We aim to make the transition process as smooth as possible for the child and their families. We support the families through the school application process and when the school place has been allocated we invite the class teachers to come to the preschool, where they can meet the child and their key people. Where possible we make regular transition visits with the children to their new school and we create individual transition journals that they can share with their families.  Where appropriate transition meetings are arranged.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

We attend regular training such as Senco induction days, Senco cluster meetings, Makaton signing and visual training. In addition we receive specialist training for a child's individual needs, such as administering medications.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We have taken part in the Healthy Early Years (HEY), which includes healthy eating for the under fives. We encourage the children to try a variety of healthy foods. We take part in physical activities at every session and provide continuous opportunities for the children to challenge and practice their movements. We support children who have an individual physiotherapy programme of daily exercises.  The children in the setting love their yoga sessions.

We support children in developing positive relationships. We encourage them to understand and label their feelings and the feelings of others. Whilst demonstrating clear and consistent boundaries, we value and support the decisions that children  make.

While encouraging the child's sense of exploration and risk taking, we encourage an awareness of possible danger.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We keep parents involved and informed both formally and informally. Parents are able to speak to their child's key worker at any time and we regularly share their child's Learning Journey with them.

Our complaints policy

All complaints are recorded and taken seriously, it is our policy where ever possible to resolve them quickly and informally . However depending on the nature of the complaint, resolution might involve outside agencies such as The Early Years Alliance or Ofsted.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Our building and outdoor play area is accessible throughout - we have specialist equipment when appropriate.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have three children's toilets, each has a wide cubicle and our adult toilet is an accessible toilet

Specialist resources we have

We have our own sensory equipment and are able to borrow other equipment such as specialist chairs, walking frames and resources for English as an Additional Language (EAL).

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All trips, outings and activities are planned and risk assessed with consideration to each child's individual needs.
