Hello and Welcome to Rookery Nook Childminding. I am an Ofsted registered childminder in Fraddon. I have worked in early years for 12 years and have managerial experience from running a preschool. I have BA hons degree in Early years and this has developed my reflective skills. I love supporting children's early education and helping them reach their next steps. Over the years i have worked hard developing good relationships with children, parents and other professionals. I have SEN experience and have supported children to reach their full potential. I have completed specific training to help me in this role such as Makaton and attended a making sense course which supports my understanding of sensory needs. My key attributes include hardworking, caring and passionate, patient and a good listener. I am also part of the untangled support network helping families with post natal anxiety and depression.

I have purpose built playroom which is set up to encourage children to access resources independently. I have a lovely role play corner with wooden kitchen, pretend food and various dressing up clothes including different occupations. I change the role play area to reflect children's interests such as a post office, shop, doctors or vets. My resources include puzzles, games, small world such as trains, cars, animals, dolls house, ponies, treading activities, handmade maths and literacy resources, puppets, musical instruments and scarves, sensory resources and treasure baskets. I have various constructions resources such as wooden blocks, mega blocks and stickle bricks. I have a good selection of books to cover various ages. To support children's creativity I have junk modelling, painting, drawing, colouring, and crafty items available. I have a little tent in the playroom for the children to share stories and have some quiet time. My garden is safe and secure for the children to play and learn. There is a rookery behind my garden creating shade for the children in the summer. The children also enjoy seeing the rooks nesting in the rookery and watching the farmer plough his field from the garden. To support children's understanding of the world we do gardening, growing flowers and fruit. We do cooking activities and learn about healthy eating. We are regularly out in the community going to parks, gardens, beach, Eden, museums and groups etc.

I speak English but I am trained in Makaton (foundation level) to support children's early communication. I learn new signs weekly with them. I also support children's additional languages and work closely with children and parents to incorporate their languages in my setting. It is important for children to speak English but also support their own cultural and language as well. I would obtain talking books in different languages and learn a few phrases in their language to help them feel welcome and valued.
