Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

On starting at my setting all parents complete a Child record form. We discuss the needs of each individual child to determine the best care possible. This includes details of the child's current stage of development which will be noted to allow a 'starting point' entry assessment to be done.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

I record children's progress every term with photos and written evidence in their diaries. I provide a progress report at the end of each full term. This helps to identify their Next Steps and parents are encouraged to use the diaries and verbal communication to ensure we work together to achieve good outcomes for the children. As required by the EYFS, I provide a 2 Year Progress Check which is completed just before their visit with their Health Visitor.

Links we have to other agencies

Interaction with other agencies e.g. Health Visitor, Speech & Language Therapist, is solely dependant on the needs of each child and is made with prior discussion with parents.

How we support children transferring to school

I support children's school readiness by concentrating on their self care needs and open discussion about their new setting. I provide a comprehensive written summary of each child's development to be given to the child's reception class teacher.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I attend many different training events in my own time to ensure I keep up to date with new and different ideas and working practices. These include First Aid, Safeguarding, Healthy eating, Behaviour Management. 

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I encourage healthy eating and promote safety and good hygiene practices. By establishing a respectful relationship with the children and their families, I am also there to offer advice and support if needed.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Parents receive their child's diary every 12 weeks, termly progress reports and verbal feedback daily.

Our complaints policy

Firstly, I would hope that any complaint would be raised verbally. If it could not be resolved, then we would follow my Complaints Policy. A copy of which is given to all parents when they start at my setting.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

I am not able to make alterations to my house. We have steps down to my front door.

Facilities we have for personal care

Personal care facilities are upstairs.

Specialist resources we have

I have ample equipment and toys for the ratio, ages and developmental stages of all the children that I care for. I also use the Toy library for further resources.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

I do this by planning, risk assessing and being organised with the correct equipment required for the activity. The ages and abilities of all the children are considered prior to trips being made. We go out on a daily basis.
