St Michael's CE Primary School - Helston
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We are situated in the centre of Helston, next to the town cricket club and rugby club. The school can trace its roots back to 1828, when the Helston National School (now the Andrew hall) opened next to the Church in Church Street. The school is set within spacious grounds and has a separate infant and junior building.

The children at St Michael's come from Helston and the surrounding community. Approximately 30% of children are Service families from nearby RNAS Culdrose.

The school has its own small woodland which all the children use. The Reception children have a Welly Wednesday where they spend the morning in the woods. St Michael's children compete in inter-school cross country, rugby, swimming, netball and hockey competitions. Swimming lessons take place at Helston pool for children in Y2-Y4. The school employs a specialist sports coach who also runs a club after school on a Thursday. Sailing lessons are offered to children in Y4.

Every year group participates in educational visits. These include: Pendennis Castle, Maritime Museum, a train journey and beach day at St Ives, Feadon Farm and the Helston town museum.

The school has a rich musical tradition and many children learn a musical instrument including drums and guitar. All children in Y4 receive free ukulele lessons.

Flora Day is a very important event for the local community and St Michael's children proudly participate in the children's dance.

There is a range of after-school activities including all year round including cross country, tag-rugby, library Friday and supasoccer. Free after-school enrichment clubs take place in the spring and summer terms. There are two residential visits to London and an outdoor camp to Porthpean or the Isles of Scilly.

We have an active school council who debate in the local guildhall each year.

The school’s mission statement is to provide a Christian environment in which children are encouraged to grow as individuals whilst learning to live in and contribute to society in a positive way.

The Lizard Child Trust nursery is also based on the school’s spacious 7 acre site. The nursery caters for children as young as 3 months, providing care from 8am to 6pm.
