Launceston College
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Launceston College we aim for young people to be happy, successful and responsible by learning the knowledge skills and values that are important for society.

The town of Launceston is a community with a long and proud history and the College forms an important part of this community. The College was first founded in 1409 as Launceston Grammar School and has been on the current site since 1873; we were renamed as Launceston College in 1931, became coeducational in 1962, became a comprehensive school in 1965 and an Academy in 2013. Launceston is a settled community and many parents attended the College as students and in some cases many generations before. This long history and central place in the community all goes towards making the College the special place that it is today. We value very highly our excellent relationships with students, parents and the wider Launceston Community and recognise that everyone has a vital part to play in ensuring that Launceston College is successful.

Young people achieve well at Launceston College and I encourage parents or students, both current and future, to look at the information that is available on other websites such as Ofsted and The Department for Education which helps to give a fuller picture of the achievements of our students. We are proud of the work we do here but we are always striving to improve further.

We are a large College (1300 students) and work hard to be inclusive for all our students, we have an Area Resource Base, (the Castle Unit), on our site for young people with learning difficulties and our Sixth Form (250 students) has students achieve places at the best universities in the country, including both Oxford and Cambridge. To ensure that we can meet the needs of all of our students we have a wide range of resources and programmes, these include in addition to the full range of academic courses, a College Construction Unit and Motor Vehicle Unit, (on the local industrial estate), and in September 2011 we opened Dunheved House, our training Hotel on the College site with a commercial quality training kitchen, fine dining facilities, bedroom accommodation, a hair and beauty salon and facilities for providing Higher Education and business support for the local community, these are all based in the superbly restored former Victorian “Headmaster’s House” and boarding accommodation. The Inspired restaurant is open to the public and run by students.
