Zelda School
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We are set in 2 Mongolian yurts in a large field with veg patch, wooded area and poly tunnel. We have solar panels for power and compost loos
The children are involved in practical activities including cooking & gardening as well as creative activities. They have access to outside all day, whatever the weather. This a place where we discover children's potential and help them to achieve it.
The highly qualified teachers are influenced by a variety of educational philosophies including Froebel and Steiner and use a child-led approach where children develop a love of learning through play, real life experiences and following their own interests.

Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
We allocate each child a key person to support your child in their learning and development. Every child undergoes a settling period with us, which may include a home visit, to ensure we understand their needs whilst in our care and a baseline assessment of their development is conducted after this. These systems enable us to identify where additional help may be required and our close working relationships with our families mean that we are able to work together to plan strategies that support individual needs. We have developed strong relationships with outside agencies to provide further support for individuals with parental consent. We monitor children's development daily and have a well developed system for monitoring these assessments each term to check for any anomalies.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
Staff have strong relationships with their key children and use this to observe, assess, plan, review process to monitor children's development. Twice a year the children's learning is monitored across the board to highlight any areas of development that are becoming a concern.
- Links we have to other agencies
We have the support of The Early Years Inclusion Service, Autism Support workers, Speech and Language Team, Portage Services and Educational Psychologists.
- How we support children transferring to school
When children are transferring to school we make contact with the new teacher and offer to meet with them for a hand over of relevant and important information. We invite the new teacher to come and see the child in our school setting and sometimes go and visit the child once they have started at the new school.
We will pass on all information about the child and how we have supported their needs, with the permission of the parents.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
We ask all staff to completed the Effective Special Education Needs Practice training. Some of our staff have also completed Behaviour Management training, Visual support training, Dyslexia champion training and been trained in the use of Makaton Sign Language. Our staff also have experience of working with children with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities they have been involved in multi agency approaches, working with physiotherapists, nurses and health care workers, occupational therapists and speech and language teams. We have experience of working with children with autistic spectrum disorders and learning difficulties and some staff have experience and training for peg feeding, administering medicines and using a variety of different types of equipment.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
At Zelda School we promote healthy eating habits through our meal times and snacks. we provide parents with updates on what their child is enjoying eating at their setting as well as allowing children to spend long periods of the day outside enjoying physical activity whatever the weather. Our newsletters regularly provide parents and carers with up to date information on current events or activity days that are available throughout the local area.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
At the end of each day staff are available to handover information about their child's day. Children's Learning Journeys are available to look at at any point and each day a board is put up to inform parents of what the children have been doing that day. We hold parents evening each term and if there are concerns we ask parents to come in for addition parent-teacher meetings. Reviews of any additional support are usually every 6 weeks.
- Our complaints policy
The first step in solving a problem or raising a concern is to talk to your child’s key person or the class teacher. If they are not available or you wish to take the complaint further then please arrange to speak to the Headteacher. If no satisfactory outcome can be reached the parent may then refer the matter in writing to the Trustees of Zelda School who will investigate the complaint. The address for these complaints is: Zelda School, Tregarne Farmhouse, Tregarne, Manaccan, Helston, TR12 6EW. If you still remain dissatisfied after an internal investigation has taken place you are entitled to take your complaint to Ofsted. Contact details are: Ofsted National Business Unit, Piccadilly Gate, Store Street, Manchester M1 2WD or telephone: 0300 123 1231 or email: www.ofsted.gov.uk/parents

Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
Zelda School is set in yurts in a field and we have endeavoured to make this as accessible as possible. Ramps are available to get in and out of the school buildings. We have an Access Plan, which is available to all parents and we are always willing to update or modify our facilities as necessary.
- Facilities we have for personal care
Our setting provides nappy changing facilities as well as individual toilets or potties for the children in our care, including those with disabled toileting needs. The children have access to sleep and cosy areas whenever they feel the need to rest or have some quiet time.
- Specialist resources we have
We ensure that the children in our care have access to a wide range of specialist equipment that meets their needs such as sensory resources or visual aids. We endeavour to accommodate any resources that are provided by Health and Social Care teams, Physiotherapists or Occupational therapists. We are always happy to buy specialist equipment when it is required.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
We are an inclusive school and aim to include all children within any activities we offer. Individual needs will always be considered and discussed with our parents whenever necessary.
