The Hugs Foundation
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The Hugs Foundation provides well-being support to children and young people, the elderly, military personnel and veterans (although sadly our veterans project has been on hold this year due to staffing levels and funding). We provide a safe space for respite and healing to help service users to lead positive, fulfilling lives through a range of holistic nature-based interventions at our horse rescue centre and farm.

Our unique mix of support includes;

  • Animal assisted services alongside our rescue animals.
  • Nature activities.
  • Therapeutic outdoor learning.
  • Team building.
  • Arts and crafts.
  • Forest based activities
  • Practical skills, such as growing vegetables and learning about the environment and sustainability.

We aim to support recovery from trauma, improve resilience, teach coping mechanisms and
build family bonds for lifelong impact. Working in a child led, holistic way gives our service
users the autonomy they need to make their own positive changes to their lives and ensures
our young people are the centre of their own recovery. Our staff support the individual to
find their own answers, giving them tools and mechanisms to keep the positive changes going
once they have finished their time with us. This way of working allows different personalities
and perspectives to be acknowledged and worked with, creating sustainable results.

Notes

The well-being sessions are delivered on the farm, consequently there are areas where the surface is uneven with loose hard core.

We do have a covered barn that can accommodate wheelchairs and a ramp for entry into the classroom. The yard and barn has an even surface however the yard does have a slight incline.

Staff SEND experience

All staff have undergone our safer recruitment process including DBS checks. All staff are safeguarding, PREVENT and health and safety trained, as well as all holding individual qualifications to enable them to provide the best service possible.

How our service supports providers / schools / colleges

With the well-being support we offer we aim to help build positive relationships with the accompanying adult, this could be a parent, support work, TA. We can also support with school transition or return to schools/college.

Support at key transition points

We aim to support recovery from trauma, improve resilience, teach coping mechanisms and
build family bonds for lifelong impact. Working in a child led, holistic way gives our service
users the autonomy they need to make their own positive changes to their lives and ensures
our young people are the centre of their own recovery. Our staff support the individual to
find their own answers, giving them tools and mechanisms to keep the positive changes going
once they have finished their time with us. This way of working allows different personalities
and perspectives to be acknowledged and worked with, creating sustainable results.

Other local or national support

we work closely with the council, CAMHS, schools, colleges and other referrers. we are also part of the HEIR (Human and equine interaction register) as well as other bodies.

Resolving disagreements, mediation and making complaints

We have a complaints policy which identifies the procedures that will take place once a complaint has been logged.
