Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

I have received quite a bit of training about SEN whilst studying for an Early Years Degree and a PGCE. Whilst teaching in a primary school for 10 Years I have also had  experiences when looking after and supporting children with disabilities and SEN.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

As stated above.

Links we have to other agencies

I would be able to access relevant services as needed through the Early Years Hub e.g health visitor, local senco etc.

How we support children transferring to school

I use my own experiences of working in a primary school Nursery/reception class to help children settle in with the transition to school. I also have two of my own children (ages 8 and 10) so therefore can relate to helping and supporting children when starting school.

Welfare

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I use guidance from the EYFS Development Matters document to help with this area. I actively encourage all children to help and prepare healthy meals/snacks. Every day we are outside in the fresh air, keeping active in all sorts of fun ways, especially visiting the park which is situated right next to my house.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

I have an open door policy where parents/carers can talk to me privately at any time. Learning Journeys are regularly sent home which shows activities and observations of each child’s progress, development and next steps.

Our complaints policy

An Ofsted poster with contact numbers is displayed at all times on parents notice board. Also policy folder including complaint policy is available at all times to parents. This is also displayed next to parent notice board.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

A wheelchair could be pushed around the side path to the rear of the house, a ramp could be fitted if required.

Facilities we have for personal care

I have a downstairs bathroom with toilet and basin. There is also a potty and changing mat available.

Specialist resources we have

I have a wealth of exciting resources, toys and activities available to all children, including outside equipment too. I am also lucky to live right next to a park which has play equipment designed for able/disabled children.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All children would be included in trips, predominantly local trips. I am lucky to live in a small coastal town where there are many places to visit e.g lifeboat station, beaches, aquarium, etc
