Strawberrys Day Care Nursery
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Under 2’s
Once your child is registered with Strawberrys they will be allocated a named basket to keep their belongings safe. You will find our baby area equipped with a wide range of safe, stimulating toys and equipment. Your baby’s time in Twinkle Stars will be carefully planned to nurture their individual needs, as well as being cared for with warmth and love. During the settling in period you will be encouraged to spend some time in the nursery familiarising yourselves with the baby area and key people caring for them.  Your child’s key person will discuss your baby’s routine and the way you want them to care for your baby. We understand this is an anxious time for you so we will keep in contact with you throughout the day if you wish. At the end of the session, you will receive an end of day report on their care diary detailing their child's activities.

2 years
in our designated space for 2 year olds your child is encouraged to play and investigate toys and equipment as well as enjoy carefully planned activities.  They will be occupied in various types of learning through play; singing and signing, Music making, sand and water play, sensory activities and role play are all part of their day to day learning, as well as group time which allows plenty of opportunities for pre reading skills, songs and rhymes, to look at books, listen to stories and to each other.  When your child is ready to begin toilet training, staff will work with you to ensure this is a positive experience.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

The manager oversees educational programmes to ensure that staff consider childrens individual needs, interests, and how children learn. A mix of indoor and outside adult-led and child initiated activities that are challenging and enjoyable experiences for each child are planned and cover all seven areas of learning and development. Staff promote childrens learning and development in partnership with parents/carers and with the support of other professionals when needed, this ensures all childrens individual needs are acknowledged and that children make good progress.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Ongoing assessment is used to monitor each child's progress and plan activities. Summative assessments are updated routinely.

Links we have to other agencies

Effective partnerships have been formed with external agencies, that help to secure appropriate interventions for children to receive the support they need; such as early the Early years inclusion team, Health visitors,  Family Support Workers, Speech and language therapists, Social care workers, CDC practitioners and child psychologists.

How we support children transferring to school

When children leave our setting and move on to school activities such as, The Hungry Caterpillars Journey, teaches children about change and new environments. Arrangements are also made for the children's new teacher to visit them at Strawberrys. When extra support is needed the key person will attend transition meetings and go to settling in sessions with children.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All staff have a shared understanding and responsibility of how to protect children and attend regular training to continuously develop their practice, such as, Special educational needs, Makaton, visual training, How to manage children's behaviour, Anaphlaxis, Child protection and safeguarding, Paediatric 1st Aid, Food safety and health and safety.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

Strawberrys key person system ensures that every child's learning and care is tailored to meet their individual needs. Every child is assigned a key person and parents are informed of who their child's key person is during the registration process. Strawberrys focus child system aims to help children develop a positive sense of themselves, to form good relationships with peers and, to be happy and enjoy what they are doing. Strawberrys has worked hard to obtain a level 5 in Cornwall Healthy under 5's programme and uses the supported materials to educate children and families about healthy eating and exercise and, the positive impact this can have on children's growth, behaviour and long term development.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Parents are informed through discussion, telephone, email, meetings and on Tapestry. Progress is discussed with parent and carers routinely, during open days. Care diary is used to write about a child's day and translators are used for parents who do not speak English if needed.

Our complaints policy

Our setting believes that children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes. We welcome suggestions on how to improve our setting and will give prompt and serious attention to any concerns about the running of the setting. We anticipate that most concerns will be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of staff. If this does not achieve the desired result, we have a set of procedures for dealing with concerns. We aim to bring all concerns about the running of our setting to a satisfactory conclusion for all of the parties involved.
