Work Skills South West - Adult Day Services

Work Skills South West (WSSW) is based at a registered care farm just outside Callington. We offer a full-day, flexible 6-hour programme, based around the concept of Healthy Living and Well-being. All the activities have been designed to improve both physical and mental health, build independence skills and reduce social isolation. The activities are varied and designed to meet the physical and mental needs of our service users. Service users will be encouraged to engage with horticultural activities that promote growing vegetables and plants for health, farm walks, animal care and interaction, craft, music and exercise.

Workshops will be diverse and include craft-based projects, photography, music, IT safety and communication, hygiene, budgeting, healthy eating, safety when out and about. All activities and workshops will be designed to be inclusive and allow for differentiation, while maintaining the group status.

WSSW’s ethos is to empower individuals to make a change to the society they live in and the local community. Each year WSSW volunteers and service users select a charity or local cause they wish to support and actively raise funds through craft projects, growing plants and fund raising for their chosen project. This empowers individuals to make an active contribution to improving the lives of others. WSSW celebrates their fundraising achievements at the end of the year with a party and presentation of the cheque.

All service users will compile a journal throughout their time at WSSW. This is their own personal record of what they have done, their experience, thoughts and emotions, and can be completed using photos, pictures, writing, drawings and other materials.

We cater for 2 distinct groups of service users – adults with LDD and the elderly. There are no restrictions within these demographics as to what we can accommodate, as programme content is flexible and inclusive.

All costs are included in the daily rate. Tea, coffee, drinking water and biscuits are provided, but service users must bring their own lunch.
