Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

I make sure that I have a good working relationship with the parents and that we share information daily through verbal communication. The children's personal written records are kept up to date. Parents help contribute to their children's learning journal through WOW sheets. Within their journals I do regular observations ensuring that I am carrying out all areas of learning within the EYFS. I do half -termly assessments and also do a written report each term based on their development. At which point I will be highlighting weaknesses and plans to help promote these further and also areas which the child does well. From doing this I am able to identify if children may require additional support. I have a good network with other childminders in the area whom we share advice and support from. From networking with other early years practitioners in the area from other nurseries I got access support and guidance from them also. For support I will also contact my local SENCO.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

I ensure that a good working relationship with the parents is maintained. The parents are the children's first educator in their life and therefore this is really important. We both share information daily, through diaries and also through the children's Learning journals. These journals are also shared with other child care settings if the child has dual settings. I also offer to meet with other dual settings to discuss the children's development should the parents wish me to. Also I use guidance and support following the Early Years Foundation stage. Being a childminder I am able to work more closely with the children and therefore can observe them on a daily basis. Regular observations helps me identify the children's strengths and weaknesses. With the help of the EYFS I am able to plan for further opportunities to assist with their learning and help them develop further. I have carried out training in order to help identify and support children with their development, e.g. communication and language, behaviour management etc. I also offer to meet with the children's health visitor to assist with the 2 year checks. Parents and Health visitors are then given a copy of the progress report which we are all to discuss together. I have also assisted in carrying out the 2 year checks questionnaires and carry out activities to assist with the child's progress.

Links we have to other agencies

I regularly attend training with other childminders but also other early years practitioners. I can also contact my local SENCO for advice and support.

How we support children transferring to school

I offer to meet regularly with children's key workers when children have dual settings. Also, when children are transferring to school I will ask parents if they wish me to meet with the child's teacher to share the learning journal. The child's learning journal will be shared with them on a regular basis and happy to meet once a term to discuss the child's development further. This is to ensure that we are both working together in the interest of the child, helping to identify and children that may require support.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I have carried out many training courses within the 12 years of being a childminder these include: communication and language, behaviour management, Makaton plus NVQ level 3 and 4.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I have attended many training to assist in promoting children's health and well being. Training includes, nutrition, fit and healthy.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Regular verbal communication is maintained between myself and the parents. I also provide the parents each half term with their learning journals to look and contribute to. I also do termly reports about the child's development and what stages they are within the EYFS. I highlight areas which I will be promoting further and also do a "Working Together" form which provides ideas and support which both the home and childcare setting can do to help their child. If I feel that the child needs further support I will speak to the parents before contacting my local SENCO.

Our complaints policy

I have a complaints policy in place.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

My front door only has one step to enter the house therefore reasonable access and I also have downstairs toilet facilities.

Facilities we have for personal care

I do have downstairs toilet facilities and I ensure that the children's privacy is respected through personal care regimes.

Specialist resources we have

I believe I offer a wide range of resources to cater for all children of all ages. I also share resources with other childminders in the area plus I use the toy library on a regular basis ensuring I am providing the children with a variety of resources to cater for their needs and interests. If a child needs specific resource this will be discussed with the parent and myself and then I will endeavour to obtain this with the assistance from my local SENCO if needed.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All risk assessments are carried out to ensure that all requirements are being met and the place is suitable for each child. All children's needs and requirements are taken into consideration when arranging any outings. Plus these are always discussed with parents also.
