Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Children's registration form includes any allergies, dietary requirements, religious and medical backgrounds. All about me forms tell us children's likes, dislikes and things that are special to them at home. All parents have an induction with the manager. Baseline assessments are completed upon entry. Tracking, developmental summaries, long and short observations are completed for each child in line with the EYFS which support next steps and planning. We also use the Every Child A Talker monitoring tool to monitor children's communication and language development.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Through close observations and using the 'Plan, do & review' model, staff will identify and support children’s learning and development needs. Specific staff training includes: SENCO, Sensory processing, Makaton, Behaviour training and we use these skills and knowledge to support each child. We work in partnership with other professionals to obtain support and guidance. We use visual support in the setting to assist individual children and/or all children with routines etc. these consist of sand timers, spot timers, visual timetables and the traffic light system.

We support and target groups of children such as more able/gifted and talented, boys achievement, EAL, EYPP and two year funded children to ensure their needs are met to the best advantage.

Links we have to other agencies

We work alongside other agencies wherever necessary these may include SALT, Educational Psychologist, Portage team, Physiotherapist, Occupational Health, Health Visitors, Senior Locality SENCO to name but a few. We ensure we get permission from parent/carers for any involvement.

How we support children transferring to school

The local schools in Newquay arrange stay and play sessions with ourselves and also for parents/carers to go with their child. Extra sessions can be arranged where necessary through liaising with the school and parents/carers. The setting SENCo will also liaise with the schools SENCo and the child's parents/carers making sure things are put in place and good information sharing between all to ensure a smooth transition. We invite the schools SENCo to any TAC meetings or transition meetings with parents/carers permission.  All learning journeys and relevant SEND paperwork is sent to the relevant schools for teachers to read and note where children are achieving and we meet with teachers/head of foundation to discuss each child individually.

Access to our online monitoring tool tapestry will be available with written consent from parents/carers for the school to view the child's development file online including personal learning journeys, tracking system, next steps and reports to ensure we are sharing all information to ensure a smooth transition process.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All staff are trained in paediatric first aid, food safety, manual handling and safeguarding. Some of our staff have attended more specific training on SENCO induction, behaviour management, makaton, sensory processing, visual support, children in care and EpiPen training, which is then fed back to all staff through in house training at staff meetings. All are staff have additionally received Prevent Duty training and FGM training and are able to recognise and respond accordingly.

We work closely with outside professionals and have been supported and provided with specific skills and training to work with individual children, for example children with physical disabilities. Through this we have been able to carry out direct interventions for specific children, for example personalised physiotherapy programmes.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We have an open door policy where parents/carers are welcome to speak to a member of staff or the SENCo anytime about any concerns or to share information regarding their child at home or in the setting. We work very closely with outside professionals and are happy to contact professionals or make referrals to gain more support for the individual, as well as putting things into place within the setting. We have an effective key person system in place where each child has a key person.

All staff receive safeguarding training. Stephanie May is our designated child protection officer, alongside Becky Capewell. All staff have Level 2 safeguarding training. Staff are continuously attending relevant training courses to support them within the setting and for individual children.

We complete a 2 year check which is shared with the parent/carer and we advise them to share with the health visitor. We are also involved with Early Support and wherever possible the SENCo and key person will attend TAC meetings for specific children.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We have an open door policy whereby parents/carers can speak to members of the team at any time. We pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable, We ensure we build relationships with parents/carers, we share information with them on their child's progress they have access to tapestry online where they can view daily observations, termly reports, tracking and their child's next steps.

We also talk verbally at pick up/drop off times and in the child's daily diary, We also send out regular questionnaires to parents/carers and they receive a copy of their child's two year check.

Our complaints policy

We have a complaints procedure which is accessible to parents/carers in our policy pack. We also have forms available for parents/carers to raise concerns, complaints or compliments. Each individual complaint is acted upon and you will be informed of the outcome.
