Steeple Woodland Volunteers

We are a group of volunteers who meet every Wednesday morning, regardless of the weather, at 9.30 until 11.30 at Steeple Woodland on the outskirts of St Ives on Steeple Lane just below Knills Monument to work in and on the reserve.

The reserve is a mixture of heathland, open hillside and a mature woodland. Anyone is welcome, all tools, gloves and instruction where needed is provided just bring appropriate clothing and footwear.

The tasks range from tree planting, to scrub and bracken clearing, pulling out invasive species such as rhododendrons , path renovation and clearing, and the occasional bonfire.

We are very mixed bunch but friendly we all enjoy working in the open air, and having a bit of laugh a long the way. No experience required, just the right attitude. The group often ends the session with a chat and a coffee at Costa in the local Tesco.

There is parking on the road in pull ins and small lay-by. Children need to be accompanied by their parent or guardian.

It is a wild site so is rough and steep in parts, and we use tools such as slashers, sheers, and scythes.
