St Pirans Playschool
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

St Pirans Playschool is located in the village of Delabole and offers full day care for children from 0 to 5 years of age. We have an experienced, enthusiastic team of staff, a dedicated Baby Room and also offer before and after school provision for Primary age children.

By following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and offering free flow access to two playrooms, a large outside decking area, outdoor classroom, garden and Forest School, we are able to provide a safe secure environment, where children can take the lead exploring and learning through their own interests. Safeguarding is at the core of everything we do and we work hard to provide a safe and secure environment for children to develop and flourish. We have been inspected by Ofsted in 2022 and received a 'Good' rating. A copy of the report can be viewed on the Ofsted website.

Potential parents are welcome to visit us, please contact us to arrange a mutually convenient time.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Parents are asked to help complete our 'All about me' form along with a member of staff so that relevant information about their child can be provided. By carrying out observations and making development links to the EYFS then plan appropriate next steps which follow the children's interests. These are used to monitor a child's progress, celebrate their achievements and complete termly cohort tracking to assess where additional support may be required. 2 year progress checks are completed with parents, as well as 3 year and 4 year progress checks in the form of a questionnaire. We use the ECAT (Every Child's a Talker) tools and the SEND code of practice and where additional support has been identified an individual provision map is completed.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

By carrying out observations and making development links to the EYFS then planning appropriate steps which are based on the children's own interests. We then track the observations we make to the EYFS development statements, from this we can identify any children that may need additional support.

Links we have to other agencies

Our links to other agencies include contact with the Speech and Language Therapist, the Early Years Inclusion team and portage, Health Vistor and Child Development Centre.

How we support children transferring to school

We provide transition days where the teacher from the local village school comes in to meet the children and we share the children's learning journeys with their new teacher (with parents/carers permission). We have story time which is led by the reception teacher both at the school and in our setting. 'Transition' books are made and are available to look through and share with parents at anytime.

The children are also invited to join in with lunch time as well as being offered transition days such as teddy bear's picnic and Sports Day where the children spend time at the primary school.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All members of staff have up to date Safeguarding training (two of which hold level 3 in safeguarding) Paediatric first aid, Anaphylaxis Awareness & Auto Injector training and food hygiene certificates, Prevent Duty training. Some staff also have Behaviour Management, SENCO training, bereavement training, Visuals, emotion coaching and Sensory Process - Making Sense training. Staff continually update their knowledge and skills via training.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We are able to provide leaflets on healthy eating and ideas for healthy lunch boxes for parents. Children bring their own snacks for morni9ng and afternoon as well as a lunch when required.

We provide free settling sessions for new children and parents/carers to come in to see how the setting runs. We have different visual aids for the children and a visual timetable so children know how their day runs. We do daily risk assessments to ensure that the learning environment is safe and ready for the children to play. We run a key carer system where staff are responsible for particular children.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Each child's designated key carer keeps parents up to date of their child's progress through sharing their child's 'Learning Journeys' on Tapestry. Parents are given a chance to have one to one catch ups with their child's key person every term. General feedback is given at drop off and collection. If a child has an additional need we have frequent meetings with both the parent and any outside agency that may be involved. Or at other time the parent may request a progress meeting.

Our complaints policy

At St Piran's Playschool we believe that children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes. We welcome suggestions on how to improve our playschool and will give prompt and serious attention to any concerns about the running of the playschool. We anticipate that most concerns will be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of staff. If this does not achieve the desired result, we have a set of procedures for dealing with concerns. We aim to bring all concerns about the running of our playschool to a satisfactory conclusion for all of the parties involved. To achieve this we operate the following complaints procedure: How to complain Stage 1 * Any parent who is uneasy about an aspect of the playschool's provision talks over, first of all, his/her worries and anxieties with the Playschool Manger. Stage 2 * If this does not have a satisfactory outcome, or if the problem recurs, the parent moves to stage 2 of the procedure by putting the concerns in writing to the Playschool Manager, Business Manager and the Chairperson of the Committee. Most complaints should be able to be resolved informally at stage 1 or at stage 2. Stage 3 * The parent requests a meeting with the Playschool Manager, Business Manager and the Chairperson of the Committee. Both the parent and the Manager should have a friend or partner present if required. An agreed written record of the discussion is made. All of the parties present at the meeting sign the record and receive a copy of it. This signed record signifies that the procedure has concluded. Stage 4 * If a stage 3 meeting the parent and playschool cannot reach agreement, an external mediator is invited to help to settle the complaint. This person should be acceptable to both parties, listen to both sides and offer advice. A mediator has no legal powers but can help to define the problem, review the action so far and suggest further ways in which it might be resolved. * Staff or volunteers within the Pre-school Learning Alliance or Family Services are appropriate persons to be invited to act as mediators. * The mediator keep all discussions confidential. S/he can hold separate meetings with the playschool personnel (Playschool Manager and the Chair of the management committee) and the parent, if this is decided to be helpful. The mediator keeps an agreed written record of any meetings that are held and any advice s/he gives. Stage 5 * When the mediator has concluded her/his investigations, a final meeting between the parent, Playschool Manager and the Chair of the Committee is held. The purpose of this meeting is to reach a decision on the action to be taken to deal with the complaint. The mediator's advice is used to reach this conclusion. The mediator is present at the meeting if all parties think this will help a decision to be reached. * A record of this meeting, including the decision on the action to be taken, is made. Everyone present at the meeting signs the record and receives a copy of it. This signed record signifies that the procedure has concluded. Parents may approach Ofsted directly at any stage of this complaints procedure. In addition, where there seems to be a possible breach of our registration requirements or if the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) standards are not being adhered to. Ofsted will refer back to the setting ensuring that the matter is being investigated following our complaints procedure and ensuring that records of the complaint are kept. The address and telephone number of our Ofsted regional centre are: EARLY YEARS OFSTED Piccadilly Gate Store Street Manchester M1 2WD. 0300 123 1231 www.ofsted.gov.uk mailto:enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk If a child appears to be at risk, our playschool follows the procedures laid out in the publication and flow chart entitled 'What to do if you are worried a child is being abused.' Also of the Area Child Protection Committee in our local authority. In these cases, both the parent and the playschool are informed and the Playschool Manager works with Ofsted or the Area Child Protection Committee to ensure a proper investigation of the complaint followed by appropriate action. Records - A record of complaints against our playschool and/or children and/or the adults working in our playschool is kept, including the date, the circumstances of the complaint and how the complaint was managed.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Currently we are fully accessible to everyone with physical disabilities.

Facilities we have for personal care

All staff have DBS checks in order to assist children with personal care. We have a fully accessible disabled toilet. The children's toilets offer low level toilets and sinks for the children to use as well as a nappy changing station, potty and toilet training equipment.

Specialist resources we have

None at present but we adapt activities to ensure that all activities and equipment is accessible, in addition to this we would be able to obtain appropriate resources and equipment as required.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Detailed risk assessments are carried out to make sure all activities are suitable for all children attending. We invite parents to come along to support the children and staff to ensure that there are a high ratio of adults to children.
