Little Merlins Pre-School
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We are a Charity Run pre-school and a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.  The pre-school is committee run and has a board of trustees.  Little Merlins is situated with the Naval housing community but open to all members of the public.

We offer the government funding for 2,3 and 4 year old, we also have a baby room and can take from birth.

We offer flexible and affordable hours to suit your needs.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We have fully qualified trained staff, a SENCo in the setting working closely with outside agencies.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Summative and Formative assessments are carried out during the child's time in the setting.

Links we have to other agencies

We work alongside other agencies when necessary.

How we support children transferring to school

This is supported through a transition period where children attend stay and play sessions, teachers attend the setting to visit the children in familiar surroundings, giving an opportunity for them to look through and discuss learning journeys and assessments.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All staff hold a Level 3 qualification, with 2 staff members having a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning and 1 staff member having Qualified Teacher Status.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We promote healthy snacks and active play.  We are in the process of developing our outdoor/sensory area in order to promote outdoor learning/play and encourage healthy exercise and mindfulness as part of our everyday activities.   We work within the guidelines of the EYFS

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We have regular parent meetings, however we do have an open door policy where parents can chat to staff regarding their children at any time. Each child is given a Key Person and parents are informed who this member of staff is.  We provide regular newsletters to keep parents/carers informed of developments/plans in the nursery and we use the Tapestry system and issue 'Memos' on Tapestry.

Our complaints policy

We have a complaints policy and procedure in place and this is displayed on the parent/carer noticeboard at the setting.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We have wide double entrances, a large wheel chair friendly toilet cubicle and a ramp leading to outdoor area which is suitable for all. We have an access plan in place which is regularly updated.

Facilities we have for personal care

Toileting, handwashing and nappy changing.

Specialist resources we have

We can work closely with SENCo's and Occupational Therapists who can provide us with specialist equipment required.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We do annual trip outings including all age ranges and we like to explore the local environment in age appropriate groups.
