Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
We continuously track the learning and development of our children against the Early Years Foundation Stage age and stages. We hold regular consultations with our parents.
We use the Every Childs a Talker monitoring form,
Communicate closely with outside agencies.
Lindsay is about to take part in the Early Years SEN training of level 3
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
We focus on each child's individual needs and adapt our planning to cater for the needs to provide the children to achieve their full potential. We review all children's progress termly and then highlight gaps within each child's learning.
- Links we have to other agencies
Early years inclusion worker,
Speech and Language professionals,
Lanivet School,
Social workers,
use our network of other local preschools to support the practice that is offered within our setting.
- How we support children transferring to school
We work closely with the main school and pass any essential information on to them to make the transition as effective and easy for the children. We join with the reception class for outdoor learning to ensure the children are familiar with Lanivet community primary school teacher. The children spend a day in the reception class before the end of the summer term ends. Also our role play area gets transformed into a school offering the children opportunity to dress into the school uniforms and look at the transition books we offer the children. We take part in school events such as inviting "people who look after us" during Spring terms for example- vets, nurse, health visitors, traffic control, police, fire etc- charity days, sports days, christingles within the church and watch the school nativity at the church.
As the school is only located 50 yards away we follow their Term time and teacher training days- to stop confusion
We welcome Teachers around the area into the Preschool once the preschool leavers have been allocated which is normally after Easter and beginning of the summer term.
Throughout starting preschool we use phonics in the teaching style of Ruth Muskin. The children explore the picture cards to begin with, followed by looking at new sounds. By spring and summer our preschool leavers begin small lessons with our lead Claire. The children are given book bags to change a range of story books and we encourage any WOW moments to be shared on tapestry.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
Our manager is level 3 qualified and holds over 15 years of experience in working in large nursery settings, she grew up within the local area and has strong links with other professionals around us. All staff member are trained at either level 2/ level 3 and all have completed a safeguarding course alongside food hygiene. She is also a mum of two young children so she can understand the emotional impact leaving your children for the first time has on you.
The deputy from September 2020 has been with Lanivet Under Fives for over 15 years and holds nvq 3. They have extremely good experience in behaviour management and has a passion for phonics, letters and sounds activities.
Our SEN lead works full time loves outdoor learning and using healthy movers for us to keep fit and healthy.
Our team is a very warm and all parents. The team who take pride in offering a family environment to all the children who attend our setting.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
We use a secure key worker system throughout the setting, which allows both children and parents to form an attachment with this person, which allows both parents, children and key worker to be able to talk confidently about the children.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
Parent & carers communication is valued and the key person will work together with the parents to ensure that every child's learning is supported. We use tapestry which is an online assessment system that allows the parents to be involved in their child's learning journey with us. This is updated weekly.
We place monthly newsletters via tapestry and recommend they place a thumbs up when read.
We have a facebook page where we share special events
Lanivet & District Under Fives have a "open door" policy and welcome any parent in if they should require extra support.
- Our complaints policy
Policy statement Our setting believes that children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes. We welcome suggestions on how to improve our setting and will give prompt and serious attention to any concerns about the running of the setting. We anticipate that most concerns will be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of staff. If this does not achieve the desired result, we have a set of procedures for dealing with concerns. We aim to bring all concerns about the running of our setting to a satisfactory conclusion for all of the parties involved.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
We have two child size toilets, a accessible sink for the children and a area for changing the children.
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have two children friendly toilets which allows children independence when going to the toilet and also a step to the sink to promote self care in washing their hands.
- Specialist resources we have
We have numerous visual resources within the setting, alongside sensory resources and also use Makaton throughout.
We have experienced staff who have lots of experience with working with children the behavioural and additional needs.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
We regularly go to the local park and forest school area within the village. We conduct regular risk assessments and adapt our outings to meet all the children's individual needs.
Before May half terms we like to go on a Preschool trip- the past 2 years we have gone to Newquay Zoo. We tend to then house caterpillars to watch them grow.
Since 2018 we have continued to take part in the Healthy Movers Project- this allows children to move in all different ways at preschool and at home. This project covers all areas within the EYFS
