I am a recently registered OFSTED childminder with experience working with children. I live in the village of Millbrook on the Rame Peninsular and am a mum of three. My 5 year old daughter is at school and my twin boys will be 2 in June, we also have an Old English Sheepdog called Eddie. I can offer an alternative or an extension to a preschool or nursery in a fun filled, warm family environment.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Each child has a gradual settling in period that suits them and their parent/career. This may involve parents staying at first and having some short settling in sessions. These sessions allow me to get to know both the child and parent and assess the child’s needs.

Each child has an about me form which details their routines, likes and dislikes, etc. I also check their development on a tracker every term. I believe communication between the parents and myself is key in identifying if a child in my care needs any additional support.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Through communication. I have a continuous communication with parents via either a diary or daily messages, depending on what they prefer. I also provide a termlynwritten assessment with parents and share their 2 year checks with their other settings and health visitors.

Links we have to other agencies

I give all parents a copy of their child’s 2 year assessment to share with their HV.

How we support children transferring to school

Children in my care will regularly go on the school run. I also read lots of stories and play games about starting school. I encourage children to be independent in their daily needs and to be confident in asking an adult for help if the need to.

I attend all the learning together sessions and school events.

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I keep up to date in all my childminding training, as well as paediatric first aid, safeguarding and child protection.

I would make sure I had appropriate training to meet the needs of any particular child in my care.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

All of my policies and procedures are about maintaining children’s health and well being. From establishing a good routine from the start to ensuring that all children in my care have access to a well balanced diet and a variety of activities for both mental and physical development.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

I have daily chats and texts with parents. I also do termly assessments as well as an ongoing learning journey that I regularly share with parents.

Our complaints policy

I send out a communication form in every welcome pack but also invite parents to feedback to me regularly if any issues arise.

I also display the OFSTED parents poster in my entranceway.

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Facilities we have for personal care

I have a downstairs toilet with a step and child seat for easy access for children. I also provide travels cots and clean bedding for children needing a nap while in my care.

Specialist resources we have

I have a range of multicultural toys and books and include world cultural events within my termly planning.

I have a low level play table and most of the toys are with in easy access for children.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All trips are risk assessed for the children I plan to take with me to make sure I meet all their needs.
