Cartwright, Mrs Julie
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
I am an Ofsted registered childminder based in Helston, Cornwall offering a warm welcome to children from 0 - 11 years of age. My husband George has been my assistant since 2017 on retiring from the Royal Navy and both the children and setting are benefiting from a positive male role model.
We provide a stimulating, fun, happy and secure environment for your child/children. Choosing a childminder means a smaller setting, which allows for a more one to one approach getting to know each individual child and their needs. I can provide flexibility and continuity of care allowing the child’s routine as near as possible to be a replication of that at home. This makes it easier for the child/children to settle in and for you to be happy that your values/cultural needs are being respected. I can work with other professionals and pre schools to plan for children of all ages and stages of development.
We live close to a large park and green area which we make good use of. We visit local historical attractions and explore lots of varied outdoor natural spaces.

Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
I do regular observations as the children are playing to be able to build up a developmental picture on each child, they enable me to identify any areas that require additional help and also to create next steps for each child in order to enhance their development.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
These are normally identified by observations that I regularly complete on each child to evidence where they are developmentally. Working with parents and other agencies End of term reviews.
- Links we have to other agencies
I have completed training in regards to access additional professional help. I have links with local health visitors, social workers and I am a member of Quality Childminding in Cornwall.
- How we support children transferring to school
We work to ensure that each child is 'school ready, practice skills that are vital in school such as being independent to go to the toilet, ability to get changed and put their own coat and shoes on as well as their confidence in asking adults for help if they need to. I encourage visits from the school teachers to see the child in my setting and also share development information prior so they know where I see them developmentally - with parental permission. We also read lots of stories and have discussions about school. Support parents with transition sessions. Older children in the setting attending school talk about their day and what happens at school.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
I ensure that my child protection and safeguarding training are kept up to date. Level 3 Multi Agency Child Protection Course, continuity through online and CPD.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
I ensure that my setting is risk assessed and outings that we go on are too. I teach the children road safety and other aspects about keeping them safe from an early age. older children using computer to complete research for homework do so with adult supervision. I offer healthy food and offer activities to support being healthy.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
My policies set out how I intend to keep their child safe. I talk to the parents and keep them updated of the topics that we are covering that support this. e.g. cooking sessions, growing our own food etc. Termly reviews, parents meeting and daily chats or diaries for younger babies/children. Parents are welcome to make an appointment to chat about concerns.
