Dorkins, Mrs Nicola
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

I am a registered childminder who provides funded sessions for eligible 2,3 & 4 year olds as well as professional care for 0-12 year olds.  I have been childminding since 2002. I provide an exciting educational learning environment where the children go on nature trails, bug hunting, visit the Eden project,Dairyland,The lost gardens of Heligan and national trust venues as well as local parks, duck ponds and soft play. We own dogs who are fantastic with all ages of children and the children adore them. The dogs have their own separate areas in the house and outside. I provide childcare for children in the clay villages and can provide pick ups and drop offs. I provide healthy snacks for the children and provide fun educational activities for the children in a safe, secure learning environment.  I have a large decked area with educational activities and a large safe lawn area where we build dens. I regularly attend local SENCO cluster meetings and regularly attend childminding conferences and courses. I am a childminder mentor and part of the QCC.

I hold an NVQ3 CCLD & ICP, DCP & ECP(Level3), Food Hygiene, level 3 multi agency safeguarding & Early Years First Aid.
I have also attended multiple courses and workshops to benefit the children in my care, including anaphylaxis awareness and auto injector training course.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

All documentation filled in for the children in my care would adequately identify any areas for concern. Documentation such as termly reports, observations and milestone charts are used to record information about the child's current level of achievement.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

If any issues or concerns are highlighted I am to inform parents/carers as soon as possible and work closely with them to provide them with the support and guidance necessary. Children may require extra equipment or resources, or need more extensive planning of activities to support his or her learning and development needs.

Links we have to other agencies

I aim to work alongside schools, nurseries and other professionals to ensure children are fully supported from all areas. I have also identified several other Local support services, such as behavioral support groups, hearing and speaking therapists and dieticians.

How we support children transferring to school

Throughout my time caring for a child I aim to teach them the necessary skills for independence to be ready for school. Children are taught skills such as dressing independently, using a knife and fork, toileting independently etc. I also use a 'Transition Document' to provide the school with information about the child about to enter their school and their level of ability and achievement. It also gives opportunity for the child and parents to contribute their thoughts and opinions on starting school etc. The document also had an extra section to be filled in for any children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities to give information to the school about the child's needs and Learning Plans as well as the details of any other professionals working with that child or family.

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I, myself, keep up to date with regular training, local SENCO meetings and particularity any changes to the EYFS, safeguarding as well as researching other relevant training to benefit my setting and the children in my care.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

My setting is a healthy setting, and I have had training to promote healthy eating and exercise in the under 8's. The children are very active whilst in my setting as we are often out and about at the local park, soft play areas, toddler groups and using my large outdoor area. I have also been involved in ‘Healthy Early Years Training’ and my setting is recognised as a Healthy Early Years Setting.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Parents regularly review and make comments about their child's learning journeys on Tapestry and files containing observations, termly reports etc. Newsletters are sent out on a regular basis to inform parents about any changes in the setting, or new topics etc.

Our complaints policy

If i receive any complaints I will make sure I keep a written record of all complaints and their outcome for 10 years. These will be kept confidential but, as required, I will provide Ofsted, on request, with a written record of all complaints within a specified period and the action taken as a result of each complaint. I will retain all records for 10 years.

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

My house is accessed via a ramp at the entrance of the house. All rooms which are to be used by the children are all on the ground level and the outdoor area is accessed by double doors leading straight out onto my decked area.

Facilities we have for personal care

The children have a downstairs toilet to use, with hand basin and drying facilities.

Specialist resources we have

I can source specialist resources as appropriate and as required.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

I always ensure that my practice and my environment are inclusive to all children. Children with additional needs are supported to participate in all activities with the other children, but I also aim to include some more specific games and activities for the child to enjoy which the other children can join in with too. When visiting places and going on trips, the places are risk assessed to include all children. I also complete a document of planning for these places, which includes a section on how I include a child with SEND.
