Devon & Cornwall Children's University
Devon and Cornwall Children's University award scheme is part of an exciting national project which recognises the achievements of young people who participate in out of hours learning activities. The aim is to raise aspirations by introducing them to a wide range of learning opportunities, awarding them with certificates and inviting them to celebration events hosted by local universities and colleges.
The age range is from five to fourteen and they can join the scheme through schools that are registered with Devon and Cornwall Children's University. They earn their certificates for the amount of time they participate in out of hours learning recognised by Children’s University. Students record their hours of participation in a ‘Passport to Learning’ record book, (available from participating schools), and they can achieve up to 30 certificates at ‘milestones’ starting at 30 hours and progressing all the way up to 1000 hours! Achievements are celebrated in school with the presentation of certificates in assembly and once a student has achieved 100 hours or more, they are invited to attend one of our graduation ceremonies held at Plymouth Universities or Penryn Campus.
We already work with a wide range of organisations that provide quality learning through out of hours activities, which include holiday activity programmes, public venues such as museums, galleries, visitor attractions, libraries, community clubs and businesses which we call ‘Learning Destinations’. We aim to expand our network of providers, so if you represent a school or club that is interested in the benefits of running Children’s University, or if you provide public activities that you would like us to validate as part of the scheme, then please register your interest by emailing us.
If you are a parent/carer or child interested in participating in the Children’s University award scheme, please speak to your school or club to ask if they already offer the scheme, and, if not, ask them to contact us to register their interest.
Devon and Cornwall Children’s University is administered by Plymouth University.
