Supported Internships

This programme is a structured Study Programme based primarily at an employers' premises. the whole purpose of a Supported Internship is to enable young people aged 16-24 with a Educational Health Care Plan to achieve sustainable employment, by equipping them with the skills they need to work, through learning in the workplace.
There are different pathways to gaining employment and a supported internship offers a way for young people with learning disabilities who face significant barriers to getting a paid job and a sustainable career..
Participants on this project can expect to be supported for between 12 and 24 months and will undertake a period of time learning skills for work, along with developing independence by using public transport, cooking basic meals and understanding personal safety. After this, participants will be expected to move from community based work experience placements, into commercial work placements where the individuals will have the chance of a sustainable job at the end of the internship. The role the participant undertakes in their work experience placement with an employer will meet a real business need for the employer. Ultimately, we hope all individuals will leave the programme close to the labour market or in employment

Referrals can be made through CSW Advisor, Telephone call or e-mail, Our adviser will then contact to discuss our offer in more detail and if required can then arrange a meeting to discuss further.
Inclusion details
- How we make our service inclusive
All venues used with in the Cornwal Area will be accessible for all participants, and adaptations will be made appropriate for the participant
- Staff SEND experience
All our Staff have a Level 3 Advice and Guidance qualification, together with a Teaching qualification either PTTLS or The award in Education and Training plus various courses relating to the Young Persons Special Need requirements. They also complete Mandatory Training on an annual basis such as: Health & Safety, Safeguarding, etc.,
- How our service supports providers / schools / colleges
On this programme we take referrals from other providers,schools and colleges, however we can also progress the participant into college (further education) should this be appropriate after there time with ourselves.
We also work with Schools in Year 10 and Year 11 to assist with Special Educational Needs Young People to aid transition from School to a Further Education provider or Specialist Provider within Cornwall.
- Support at key transition points
This service would support the participant through key transition points by working with them on a 1:1 basis and assisting them with any problems that may occur, and signpost to the most appropriate service providers that may be available to assist them, plus we would accompany them in the first instance.
- Other local or national support
We have access to a network of over 50 specialist delivery organisation throughout Cornwall who are all there to supply support to families and individuals. Nationally, we are fully up to date with what would also be available nationally with regards to supporting families, We would also have knowledge of DWP provision and Access to Work which will be available to these learner should they go into employment.
- Resolving disagreements, mediation and making complaints
We would enact our Complaints/Compliments procedure.
Any complaint or compliment relating to any programme should in the first instance be addressed by speaking to the customers key worker. If following this the grievance is not resolved, you should contact Access Training Head Office by telephoning 01726 77600, or alternatively you have the right to complain or compliment in writing to the Directors of Access Training (SW) Ltd. Issues raised will be dealt with promptly and effectively. Receipt of a complaint will be acknowledged on the same working day that it is made by email. Letters will be sent out first class on the day of receipt.
We undertake to treat the complaint confidentially and to investigate it impartially and thoroughly. A written report will be sent within 10 working days, although every effort will be made to respond in 5 working days, details of the investigation and our proposed remedial action will be included within the response, Details of all complaints will be kept on file and used to assist staff training and annual performance appraisals.
If you are still unhappy with the response you receive from the department manager you may request that the Director reviews your complaint has been dealt with fairly and in line with our policies and procedures. You will receive a further written response from the directors within 10 working days of your appeal being received, although we aim to respond within 5 working days.
