Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We work closely with parents and listen to any concerns they may have. Each child has a key person who gets to know the child well and regularly observes and tracks their progress and development, identifying any areas where additional support may be required.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

The key person works with the SENCO to identify appropriate next steps for the child and incorporate these into the planning to enable the best opportunities for development.

Links we have to other agencies

We work closely with the Early Years Inclusion teams, the Senior locality SENCO, Educational Psychologist, Portage team, speech and language therapists and health visitors and would aim to work with any other professionals working with a child.

How we support children transferring to school

We visit local schools and also invite teachers from the local primary schools to visit our setting during the summer term and discuss any children who might need additional support. In cases where it is needed, transition meetings will be arranged with the school, pre-school and parents to discuss how to best support the child and make the process easier.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

We have staff with childcare qualifications up to level 5. All staff undergo regular training to keep updated. Training includes: Safeguarding, Paediatric first aid, SENCO induction training, behaviour management, Makaton visual aid training and language development

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We offer a healthy snack and provide a weekly menu for the parents to view. We give out information to parents in order to support them in providing a healthy lunchbox. If there were any concern we would discuss them with the parents/carers and signpost them to relevant agencies. We keep records for administering medication at the setting and staff would attend relevant training for any specific medical needs. We carry out risk assessments to ensure the safety of our building and activities provided. We have a designated person responsible for safeguarding and health and safety.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We encourage all parents and carers to come to the door to the playgroup when they drop off and collect their child. This provides both carers and staff a chance to exchange information informally. Parents are able to view their child's file at any time as it is stored in their child's own drawer which is accessible every day. We also share observation feedback and summative reports and targets with parents/carers on a regular basis.

Our complaints policy

Our complaints policy is displayed on our notice board within the nursery.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Our building is up a flight of steps which has no wheelchair access but once inside the building all areas are accessible along with an outside space to play. Our playrooms are open planned to allow us to set up furniture and equipment as needed.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have a accessible toilet and seperate nappy changing areas in all rooms.

Specialist resources we have

We ensure that children in our care have access to a wide range of resources including sensory equipment and visual aids. Our setting is a continuous provision, where all toys and equipment are always available and accessible to all children.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We have recently started to take out our Pre-school room on Out and About Days, visiting local businesses and attractions in the town, such as the beach, the woods and the library. We are fortunate enough to have close access to local green spaces such as The Downs, which is wide open space with lovely views of Looe, and we are fortunate enough to take our 2-3 year aged children out for short periods of time to chase a ball around, blow bubbles and look at the wildlife.
