Promas Caring for People CIC
Multi-award-winning Promas CIC supports unpaid carers in Cornwall.
Caring for a family member or friend requires specialised skill. It is often unexpected and comes with no training on how to cope. Unpaid carers often experience depression, anxiety and a multitude of physical illnesses brought on by their caring role. We offer a range of free services to help carers with physical and psychological wellbeing; practical, recreational and emotional.
Central to our working ethos is our commitment to the inclusive working and the principles of equality and diversity; this is at the core of all our work.

Courses for unpaid carers
We deliver a wide range of free courses via Zoom, face to face and online to teach emotional, practical and resource skills, enabling carers to continue in their caring roles. Please go to www.promas.co.uk for list of courses, venues, dates and how to access our online courses.
The face-to-face courses are delivered across Cornwall to ensure better access for unpaid carers (please note all face-to-face services currently postponed due to COVID-19). Our courses are not a ‘sticking plaster’, but offer a preventative tool to prevent crises before they happen.
We teach carers coping strategies, managing stress, contingency planning, effective communication with family and professionals, understanding benefits, understanding behaviours and identifying needs and how to access community resources. We also have specialised courses for carers caring for someone with dementia or mental illness. Additional we provided courses in art, singing, mindfulness, creative writing and Nordic walking. The courses are either half, one, two or three days long.
We provide travel costs to and from the course, £2.50 contribution to lunch and all course materials. We have a 48hr call back and carers can contact us via text, phone, email or letter.
Social events for unpaid carers
Many unpaid carers face social isolation due to their caring roles. They often experience loneliness and a reduction in their social activities.
Promas CIC work with local businesses to organise social events to help raise awareness of the issues facing unpaid carers and give unpaid carers the opportunity to attend free social activities across the county, where they can enjoy a free dinner or lunch. In addition, they can meet other unpaid cares in a social setting. Look at our website to see what's on.
