Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
I work closely with children and parents and by building strong relationships parents feel that they can express any concerns that they may have. I regularly observe the children in my care as a way to monitor development and support children in the areas that need support. I use these observations against the Eyfs to assess children’s development and to pinpoint any difficulties a child may have. I regularly attend training related Special educational needs.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
Using the Eyfs and observations that are taken regularly to assess children’s development I am able to identify what areas needs support.
- Links we have to other agencies
I am a member of Pacey and the Qcc which offer support and will signpost me to the relevant agencies.
- How we support children transferring to school
I work closely with schools, arrange visits with them nearing the time when a child in my care begins school. I am happy to stay with the child when they visit to reassure them and will endure to work closely with parents and new teachers at this time. I provide activities in my setting designed especially to help with transitioning.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
I have 16 years experience working with children and a degree in Early Childhood Studies. I have completed training concerning autism and have worked with a variety of children with sen. i have recently completed levels 1-4 in Makaton and wish to become a tutor.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
I am a sugar smart setting and have an allotment where the children grow their own fruit and vegetables that are used for their snack and cooking activities. I have a variety of books and resources supporting children’s well being. I provide opportunities to discuss and express emotions and provide activities to ensure that children feel safe in expressing them.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
Regular meetings with parents to discuss children’s development, we talk in detail using children’s learning journeys and work together to decide on a child next step.
- Our complaints policy
Complaints will be discussed in private with parents, I will work closely with them to try and amend what needs to be changed. Records will be kept on what actions are taken and ofsted will be contacted if it is necessary. I will work to ensure that all complaints are dealt with and will make any changes necessary to my risk assessments and routine if needed.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
I have made my garden safe and accessible and have designed our allotment with children in mind. I have put up safety gates, fire guards and door catches to ensure that children are kept safe. I have made my toilet accessible to support children toileting, there is a potty on site and I have provided a seat on top of the toilet to make using it easier. I am unable to provide care for children in wheelchairs as I work from a rented property and am unable to make changes that would make my home wheelchair friendly.
- Facilities we have for personal care
I have facilities for nappy changing and toilet training. Children have access to clean running water and soap for hand washing.
- Specialist resources we have
I have a large quantity of sensory resources, books on emotions and the different types of family units, cultures, and sen.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
I attend lots of community events and activities that are free and ensure that every child gets to be involved. Parents are informed of any trips out in advance. All activities are age appropriate and designed to allow all children access to them. I talk to parents regularly to ensure that they are always informed of what is happening in the setting.
