Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
We continually observe and monitor the children's progress using a range of tools such as the 'Early Years Outcomes' and Every Child A Talker sheet. Each term we share the child's Learning Journey and a Summary Sheet with the parents, and if we have any concerns we will talk to them about it.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
If we have any concerns, we will discuss with the parents how we would all like to help the child with their progress and if necessary we will refer to outside agencies for additional support.
- Links we have to other agencies
We work closely with our Children's Centre Teacher, Speech & Language Therapists, Health Visitors, Social Care, our Local area Inclusion Office as well as other schools and settings in our area.
- How we support children transferring to school
We identify all of the schools that the children will be attending and the room supervisors take photographs and obtain a school sweatshirt form each of the schools. We will then talk to the children about the schools and we also invite all of the reception class teachers to visit the children at our setting. We believe this gives the teacher a true impression of the children as this is where they are comfortable.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
Our Senco has attended the 2 day training course. 3 of our team has attend the Communication & Language training. Most of our staff have had visual training and basic Makaton training. We use makaton and visuals regularly with the children. All of our staff are first aid trained and food safety trained. Our Senco attends Cluster Meetings in the local area.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
We offer a stimulating, safe and caring environment which enable the children to thrive. We offer a home-cooked lunch followed by fresh fruit and a healthy snack mid afternoon. We took part in the pilot scheme for Nippers Nutrition. We have leaflets and posters on display in our foyer for parents/visitors.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
With regular communication and support. We offer a daily diary for the younger children and daily verbal feedback with all parents.
- Our complaints policy
Any complaint made to the nursery is recorded and investigated. We will then share our findings with whoever made the complaint, and record the outcomes/actions. A serious complaint would be shared with Ofsted.
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
We are a ground floor building with good access, and any new alterations have allowed for ease of access.
- Facilities we have for personal care
Low level toilets and sinks are provided for the children to enable them to be as independent as possible.
- Specialist resources we have
Visuals and multicultural resources in all areas. A sensory box and the "best staff'! We would source specialist resources/equipment if required.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
We increase staff ratios if necessary and all steps are taken to ensure inclusion.
