Jumblies Day Nursery

Jumblies Day Nursery provides full day care for up to 32 children, from 6 months to 5 years.

The under 2's are cared for in our Baby and Toddler Room by two qualified and highly experienced Early Years Practitioners.

Preschool children's (aged 2-5 years) play and learning takes place in the preschool room, overseen by our Early Years Education Graduate Manager.

Good routines ensure that activities and learning are scaffolded according to children stages of development and interests.

Jumblies last Ofsted inspection took place in March 2022, and the nursery was judged good.

We are on bus route between Falmouth, Truro and Penryn. Parking is available on the Wharf for a small charge (20p for 30 min.) and on the roadside.

Access to Jumblies is via steps or a ramp, doors allow wheelchair access.

Parents provide packed lunch. The nursery provides snack, consisting of a range of fruit, followed by bread sticks or crackers. We keep a list of children with allergies and specific dietary requirements in the office, this is strictly followed at snack time. Milk is offered at snack times, the children bring in a water bottle. This allows us to ensure that all children drink enough throughout the day.

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We have a strong key person system that ensures staff build strong relationships with their key children and families. We believe that children need to feel safe and secure to thrive and achieve this through children forming strong bonds with the staff. This also helps us  to identify areas in which children may require extra support and with their families decide how we best achieve this.


Our  Managers are both Early Years Graduates, the Manager also has Early Years Professional Status.


Both have knowledge and experience is Special Educational Needs and have in the past worked closely with the area SENCO team, as well as the local Speech Therapy team, who are there to advise and discuss any problems before, during and after referral of a child. Both regularly access training to keep updated and widen their knowledge.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We use Tapestry to record observations on each child. Parents are able to access Tapestry from home to view their child's observations, record their own observations and generally communicate with their child's key person. Any concerns are discussed with the child's parents/ carers to help us support the child in the most appropriate way. Staff are  available to talk to parents in person or on the phone to discuss any issues. Close working relationships with the area SENCO team help us support children as best as we can.


 


Daily observations of activities keep parents informed of their child's day in Jumblies.


We happily work with other teams who support children with specific needs such as the Vision Support Team, Speech Therapist or Educational Psychologist.

Links we have to other agencies

We work closely with the inclusion team. Our SENCO's attend SENCO network meetings to keep updated on recent developments. We have in the past worked with Speech Therapists, Educational Psychologists and the Vision Support Team.

How we support children transferring to school

Transition for us begins in the autumn term before children start school. We aim to make the move to the reception class as smooth as possible for the children by ensuring that children are ready to learn, can follow a routine, have good communication and personal, social and emotional skills to deal with the change to school. 


We write to all Primary Schools that the children are moving to and invite the class teachers to visit Jumblies. The child's key person is available for a chat with the teacher and to introduce the child. Following our parents evening in July, we post the children's summative reports  to the school (with parents permission). The children moving on to school spend time talking about this, looking at pictures of their new uniforms etc in the last half term. Feedback from local schools, especially regarding children's readiness to learn (Social, Emotional and Personal Development) was excellent. 


Our graduation party for the school leavers celebrates the children's achievements and the next step to primary school.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

SENCO Induction Days Training, Behaviour management training, visual training, allergy awareness training, regular SENCO meetings.


Two members of staff hold a BA Hons in Early Education and Early Childhood Studies (one is a qualified Early Years Professional), one member of staff is working towards their degree, all other members of staff are qualified to level 3. 

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We have taken part in the Healthy Early Years Project (HEY). This helps us ensure that we support the children's health as well as mental and emotional well being the best we can.


 Weekly Yoga classes take place on a range of days.


We plan activities to support personal, social and emotional development throughout the day. Physical development is supported by free access to our outside play area, daily wake and shake sessions and  weekly use of the upstairs hall.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We are available to talk to parents either in person or on the phone throughout the day. We put an emphasis on working closely with families, as we feel that this is very important to children's development.


Parents can access their child's observations and care diary (baby room) on Tapestry.


We hold a parents evening or parents phone calls in January and July during which we share the child's Learning Journey. 

Our complaints policy

All complaints are recorded and taken seriously, it is our policy where ever possible to resolve them quickly.


This process may involve just management and staff or our parent committee.


However depending on the nature of the complaint, resolution might involve outside agencies such as Education, Health and Social Care or Ofsted.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Jubilee Wharf was built in 2006 to the latest building regulations and is accessible throughout.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have three children's toilets, one adult toilet which is wheelchair accessible and two nappy changing areas.

Specialist resources we have

We have a lot of sensory resources, general  nursery resources and sports equipment and regularly update our resources.


 


We access grants for multicultural children, these are used to ensure our resource support the children's language development in both languages.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We aim to include all children, but will always look at a child's individual needs and discuss this with the parents to ensure the best outcome for each child.
