Play and Creative Arts Therapy - Creative-Me Cornwall
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Creative-Me Cornwall provides Play and Creative Arts Therapies for children and young people  (4-15 plus). I use play, art, movement, drama and music amongst other things in order to use a child or young person's natural language to enable them to express themselves, explore their thoughts and feelings and make sense of their life challenges and experiences.

How we make our service inclusive

Our service is inclusive by being able to be mobile and to offer sessions within the child's school or accessible premises.

Staff SEND experience

Each child is individual, parents, carers, referrers, teachers and other professionals are supported to ensure the child is able to engage with myself and the sessions, the suitable toys and equipment and the therapeutic play space.

How our service supports providers / schools / colleges

Once a child is able to express their emotions and feelings in their own time, and feel heard and accepted for who they are, they learn different and more healthier ways of expressing their inner world and in turn improve peer, school and family relationships. Play and Creative Arts Therapy helps remove barriers to learning by freeing up the child or young person's mind, in order for learning to happen and for relationships to repair.

I can work alongside Trauma-Informed Schools, supporting them by working with children who exhibit moderate to severe needs and behaviours and by being an advocate for the child and the child's family.

Support at key transition points

To ensure that a child feels safe and secure, sessions run at the same day and time each week in order to build trust and reliability. When life poses difficulties, the play therapy sessions can help prepare the child for out of the ordinary or routine events such as medical procedures, hospital visits etc.

After an assessment, and with the agreement of everyone involved, there is a clear procedure when sessions are near to being completed.  A count down will be put into place which is essential to prepare the child for the ending.

Other local or national support

As a member of Play Therapy UK and BACP  and regulated by their Professional Standards Agencies, there is a strict Ethical Code of Practice underlying my work. I am registered on both professional (PSA) registers, and when practicing receive regular supervision.

Resolving disagreements, mediation and making complaints

Complaints can initially be made to myself where a solution will be sought. If a complaint needs to be taken further, the overseeing organisation (PTUK) can be contacted: www.playtherapy.org.uk.

I have a full complaint procedure in place which can be forwarded.
