Little Dragons Childcare and Mini Pre School - Hetty Osmont
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

My name is Hetty Osmont and I am an OFSTED registered childminder based in Newquay, Cornwall. I live with my husband Garrick and 2 children aged 12 and 15 years. We run Little Dragons together along with an assistant and we aim to provide the best possible opportunities for children of all ages. Our house is near the Gannel and is walking distance from schools, parks, town, the zoo, the sports centre and beaches. We are a very friendly and active family who like to surf, skate and explore. In addition we play sport, socialise and try to access as much from life as we can.

Pre School Children: We provide a safe, fun and active environment that enables younger children to become 'school ready' whilst in a homely and caring environment. We access many local playgroups and also run our own playgroup on a Wednesday morning so that the children can play in a wide range of social situations. In addition we use the outdoors extensively with children learning to ride bikes and scooters, climb and explore and enjoy the great outdoors. We take the children swimming and also run a summer beach school.

School Age Children: We provide school age children with a fun and comfortable safe haven that can includes drop off and pick up, home cooked food, fun sports activities and coaching, beach school and many more opportunities. PE, sport and the outdoors have been a central part of our lives and we want to pass on our skills, knowledge and passion to all the children.

I became a childminder as I enjoy working with children of all ages and I wished to use my nursery qualification. Having needed childcare support for several years myself I am very aware of the challenges that families face when working with children. Therefore, as a childminder I wish to be extremely flexible and supportive whilst providing safe, fun and active childcare for families.

I am a qualified infant and primary school teacher with a level 3 Nursery Nurse Qualification and Early Years teaching experience. I have worked in schools as a Physical Education specialist for primary and secondary age children. I have worked as a primary teacher teaching EYFS, infant and junior classes. I was also the schools Physical Education teacher for 15 years. In addition to my teaching and childcare qualifications I am also a gymnastics coach, fundamental movements coach, paediatric first aider and holder of a beach lifeguard qualification. I have experise in behaviour management and am qualified in promoting positive child behaviour at level 3 and supporting children's emotional well-being.

Garrick is a secondary Physical Education teacher with 19 years experience who has also worked with primary and infant school children and primary teachers as a School Sports Co-ordinator. In addition he is a swimming coach and teacher, fundamental movements & SAQ coach, paediatric first aider, beach lifeguard and level 3 surf coach and has several sports specific coaching badges. Garrick volunteers at Crantock Surf Lifesaving Club with both our sons, Newquay Rugby Club and Newquay Cricket Club where our youngest son plays.

I am able to provide places for children of all ages. I am able to cater for babies and prepare children for pre - school and their reception year. I have had an Ofsted inspection and was considered outstanding in quality of teaching, learning and assessment and outcomes for children.

I have an outstanding assistant who works alongside me. I am very proud of my assistants' interaction with children, positivity and eagerness to learn the profession. She is a real asset to the development of all the children in my care.

I am approved for all types of funding so parents can claim pre school funding, 2 year old funding, tax credits, student grants etc.

My assistant is available for baby sitting on the weekend and evenings and can be contacted by phone or by text. My assistant is DBS checked and has the following qualifications in: Food Hygiene Level 2, Safeguarding Children Level 2 and Paediatric First Aid. My assistant comes with references and has independent transport.

Where to go

I believe activity and fresh air are very important for all young children so I have created two gardens for the children to play. One garden has grass, climbing opportunities and sand. The other garden with water play and outside toys and both lead out from the playroom to allow for free flow. It also allows for outside play to be accessed all year around.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Stratagies used to support Childrens development greatly depend on their individual needs. Every child is treated equally and strategies are put in place where a child requires it. It maybe physical or emotional support, equipment, exercise food or toys. we endeavour to help children be as independent as possible.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We follow the EYFS and observe, monitor and assess all children continually. As children find areas difficult that is when strategies of support come in to play to help support the child to success. With parent support outside agencies/support may be contacted.

Links we have to other agencies

I am aware of many outside agencies and know how to find the information. I currently work with an Speech and language specialist, Educational phycologist, SENCO and occupational therapist.

How we support children transferring to school

We visit the primary school regularly and try to build a relationship before school. The schools contact me for reports and the children EYFS profiles. They also have a telephone call with me or visit. When the children know their classes we visit and try and build up a relationship before the children go in with their parents.  Children from my setting usually go in friendships groups as well.

Specialist skills or training our staff have

My assistant is a teacher and has been teaching for 18 years.

Both my assistant and I are PE trained and have good knowledge in Physical literacy.  I am a primary and Early years teacher so have a good understanding of Childrens development from 0-11 years in core subjects and the EYFS. I also worked in primary school with a special needs unit that believed in the inclusion of all children.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I believe this is one of the most important areas especially in a time where their seems to be an increase in mental stress. Therefore I make sure:

Children get the sleep they need

Children get the recommended exercise they need of approximately 180 minutes a day

Children eat a healthy, varied and fresh diet

Children receive a calm, caring and safe environment to grow and learn

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We have a daily dairy that informs parents of their Childs day. We meat and greet morning and at the end of the day.

Our complaints policy

Parent s can speak to me and if not happy can complete a form or inform OFSTED. Forms and OFSTED number are on my parents board.

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

My house is assessable to most.

Facilities we have for personal care

A bathroom but no downstairs toilet!

Specialist resources we have

I have sensory toys. Resources would be purched as needed.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Resources I need would be purchased and I have a great deal of pushchairs. Without knowing what is needed it is difficult to answer.
