Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
We follow the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) code of practice. We use a graduated approach beginning with any staff or parent and carers concerns and observations leading to assessing the child . We plan for the individual child, carrying the process out and regularly reviewing it. The Senior Area Senco and the inclusion team works to ensure we are continually updating our training and doing our best for the children and families at all times,
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
All staff monitor the progress and development of all children at the Pre-School. Before a child is enrolled in Pre-School a home visit is offered. This is optional but it is a great way for the children to meet staff members in their home environment. This also gives the parents and carers an opportunity to voice any concerns that they may have and for us to gather early information on that child. Observations, achievements and photos are taken for each child. These are entered by the child’s Keyperson into the child’s own “All about me” file. An appropriate activity based on the child's interests and to ensure they progress will be planned and implemented. If, when getting to know a child or reviewing a child’s file, it becomes apparent that there is a lack of progress in one or more areas, there will follow a period of closer observation. Then if it is found necessary, the SENCO and/or a suitable member of staff will discuss the concerns with the parent/carer. Each term parents/carers are encouraged to review their child’s file with their child’s Keyperson, (or another member of staff if they prefer). The date of and any comments from this meeting are kept with the child’s file. Parents and Carers may also ask to view their children’s records at other times if they wish. At the end of the child's time with us at Pre-School the file is sent home to keep as a treasured memory. Home learning packs and social stories can also be sent home. We work with all schools that our children are going onto to ensure a successful and smooth transition.
- Links we have to other agencies
We liaise with a range of professionals including Early Years inclusion service, speech and language, child development centre, outreach, community pediatrician, health visitor etc.
- How we support children transferring to school
We liaise with the child's designated school, if the child has SEN, the SENco will arrange a meeting with the relevant school staff and hand over all information ILP's etc. This is so the children can have as smooth a transition as possible in readiness for starting school in the September. A personal transition plan will be put into place for each child.
We pride ourselves with working with all schools that our children go onto in order to have a successful transition from Pre-School to Primary.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
All our permanent staff are highly trained at level 3 or above. We constantly update on good practise and outstanding Ofsted requirements. All staff are first aid trained. Staff have regular supervisions with the Manager so that additional training can be identified as and when necessary. The SENco has completed the induction course and attends regular network meetings. All senior staff have attended the Inter-agency child protection advanced course, and the Manager has attended common assessment framework training (CAF) All staff have completed a special Educational Needs Awareness workshop to deal with the new SEN code of practice.
We have a 5* rating for our food hygiene and all staff hold the required level 2 in food hygiene.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
We ensure all two year olds have the chance to access funding if needed so they can access the pre-school. We promote healthy eating by providing healthy snacks and dinner and drinking water is always available. Children always wash their hands after going to the toilet and before eating or helping with food preparation and cooking. Children are always given the opportunity to play in or outside. We have a wide range of outdoor toys to promote exercise. We offer healthy lunchbox sheets for parents to give them ideas on what they can put in their child's lunchbox. We display a menu of all snacks and dinners on offer. Children are encouraged to take their own risks but adults are always overlooking and have general safety rules. Staff always promote positive relationships between themselves by modelling good behaviour.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
Children are informally observed every session that they attend. If a child needs extra support, parents will be consulted as to how we can effectively address this. Independent Learning Plans are drafted with the involvement of the parents. updates on progress are given after each session. Parents are reminded that they can speak to a member of staff at any time.
- Our complaints policy
We feel any complaints could be resolved quickly by an informal approach. if this can not be achieved then we have a fully extensive policy that can be followed. This policy is available to all parents either paper based or by visiting our website.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
We have had a slope built to access the premises, a slope at the fire exits. We have a disabled parking, a wide gate and door to enable wheelchair access, low handled doors, disabled toilet facilities and wide corridors.

- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
We have at least one Pre-School trip a year, we invite all the children and siblings, family members and carers. We make the trip to a local play farm so that parents can walk there if they do not have transport. We have special rate for the trip to make it accessible for all incomes.
We also arrange small local community walks.
