We operate a free play open door system, allowing the children to chose indoor or outdoor play. We build our activities on this.

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Obtain information from the parents regarding the childs development and learning styles. We use EYFS framework to track our children. We use cohort tracking.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We carry out small group work with our identified children

We work with speech therapists, the senior locality SENCO, social workers, health visitors.

How we support children transferring to school

We have close contact with our main feeder school which is located on the grounds of the preschool, who we share information with and work in partnership. We carry out transition reports and learning journeys.


Specialist skills or training our staff have

Our staff attend training in SENCO induction, behaviour management and safeguarding.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

All staff have attended safeguarding training and our manager is our designated person. We carry out risk assessments on a daily basis. We have an open door policy to welcome parents to share any circumstances that may occur at home. We have been involved in early years support process and have attended TAC meetings. We contribute to the two year checks and share them with parents and the health visitor. We promote PSED within the setting by reward systems, praise, emotion stories and all staff have a caring nature. We have a quiet area where children can go to rest and relax.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We share learning journeys with our parents and they know that we always have time for them to discuss any questions they may have. We send out questionnaires to our parents so they can give us their input. All of our planning is on the wall so all parents can see what we are doing. We send out newsletters every half term so parents can see what we are going to be covering and informing them about up coming events. We carry out summative assessments on our children, which we then share with parents and they comment and sign.

Our complaints policy

If somebody has a complaint there are 5 stages that we follow to ensure that the process is carried out correctly. The policy is in the office on display where all parents have access to it.


Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We have a accessible toilet as well as small toilets for the children to use, we also have a discreet  changing area. All doors are wide enough to fit a wheelchair through. There are visual labels in our setting so all children can access what they want. Our outside area is accessible to everyone at all times.

Facilities we have for personal care

we have a discreet changing area. all of our staff and committee members have dbs checks and their numbers are displayed. We use visual strips for our hand washing routine. We have a strong key person system in place and the parents are informed which member of staff is their childs keyworker.

Specialist resources we have

We have low sinks for easy access for the children and child friendly toilets. We currently don't have any children with severe additional needs.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

When we have trips and activites we always invite the parents for their help and support. We always carry out a risk assessment to ensure the safety of our children, parents and members of staff. We ensure the travel arrangements are suitable for all children by working with our parents.
