Joanna's Childcare
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

I have loved childminding for over 28 years and always enjoy each day, tailoring activities to each child's individual needs to stimulate and encourage them so they are having fun and they are learning as well.

I received an 'Outstanding' in my last Ofsted inspection and I aim to always improve so I can offer a better service. I continually attend various training courses to keep up to date.  I have a Cache Level 3 certificate in Childminding Practice as well as up to date Child Protection, Paediatric First Aid and Food Hygiene certificates.
I follow the early years foundation stage principles to promote learning, development and care from birth to five years.

I look after Children aged between 3 months and 12 years old, I except 2 year old funding and provide funding for three and four year old children who are all entitled to 15 hours, and 30 hours of FREE Early Years (EY) Entitlement per week across 38 weeks of the year. I offer full time and part time care according to your needs, all hours are flexible.

I have school children of all ages before and after school. During the long summer months I run holiday cover and we go out most days visiting local attractions.

We are a non-smoking household.

We love to get out and about in term time as well as the school holidays. In term time we visit local parks or amenities like the Seal Sanctuary, Lost Garden of Heligan, Trebah Gardens, National Trust gardens and walks like Trelissick, Glendugen and Godolphin house; Tehidy woods and other local woods; Wheel Martyn, Flickers donkey Sanctuary, Newquay Zoo, Eden Project, Falmouth Maritime Museum and Truro Museum; Truro Cathedral and library activities. Activities with Falmouth Childminders like Fun days and the Christmas party.

In the holidays as the bigger attraction are busy we keep to local woods, Wheel Frances and Wheel Martyn, Trelissick and Godolphin National trust properties, Owl Sanctury, Tehidy woods etc. On every trip there is something new to learn and see.

At home and out and about we love to observe wildlife in the my garden and out in the countryside and beaches.

In my garden there is a free flow system from inside to out so we can spend more time outside. I have a swing and slide as well as a lovely playhouse and sand kitchen. We have an extensive garden growing flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables. The children love to plant and watch Vegatables grow as well as enjoying picking the produce, eat it and then we recycle the peelings. There is also a wildlife pond to observe the tadpoles, frogs and newts. Bird feeders and houses, so we can watch the birds visit and hopefully have there young in my garden. We make bug hotels and watch caterpillars turn into butterfles.

I live in a beautiful cosy old cottage with a fantastic airy and light garden room with loads of toys and equipment to play with. Being an artist myself we do lots of drawing and craft.

I am a member of the PACEY and I am a member of Falmouth & District Childminding Group. I am also a member of Quality Childminding in Cornwall run by the local council.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

I work closely with parents to obtain information about their child to ensure I understand and am able to support their needs whilst in my care.

Together we will assessment children level of development. This will help me to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for your child in all areas of learning and development according to their needs, interests and stage of development. This will also identify where additional help and support that may be required.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Each child has a detailed Daily Diary. This includes their Learning Journey, photographs and written observations of your child to help me understand their level of achievement, interests and learning styles. I will use these observations to plan individual learning experiences to help your child take the next steps in their learning and development, according to the Early Years Foundation Stage. Written assessments will be made termly (including the 2 year old Progress Check) which will highlight any additional support that may be needed.

Links we have to other agencies

When necessary I can make referrals and request support from a range of specialist agencies including, Area SENCO Team and Health visitors.

How we support children transferring to school

I endeavour to ensure that I give children the range of knowledge and skills required for “school readiness” By working to the standards of The Early Years Foundation Stage.

Diary/Learning Journeys and transition progress reports are shared with schools and teachers who are also invited to visit my setting (with parent’s permission).

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

Level 3 Multi Agency Child care Protection, SENCO, Behaviour Management, Meeting the needs of Children with SEN Disability and a workshop to raise awareness of Prevent WRAP 3

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I try to provide healthy and nutritious meals, drinks and snacks although some Children bring their own lunch boxes.

Children enjoy lots of opportunities to play outside in all weathers. Getting lots of fresh air and exercise, in the garden and on visits to woods, beaches, parks, Penryn Gym etc.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

I talk with Parents every day at collection times so they are provided with lots of verbal feedback, photograph display of day’s activities, and access to their child’s Learning Journey/Daily Diaries at any time. I will also communicate with parents by telephone, e mail or home visits.

Our complaints policy

I have a complaints policy which all parents receive a copy of in their Parent packs and this is the procedure I will follow.

I aim to work in close partnership with parents to meet the needs of their child and expect that they will immediately bring to my attention any Problems they have my service so that the matter can be resolved quickly.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

I live in an old Cottage so no alterations have been made. I will however make any reasonable adjustments.

There are steps to the front door. All amenities on the ground floor although there is a small step between the kitchen/bathroom area and the sitting room. Access to outside patio and lawn has a lip on the door as modern double glazed door but could have a ramp fitted if necessary.

Facilities we have for personal care

Toilet and wash basin on ground floor. Children have access to sleep and cosy areas whenever they feel the need to rest or have some quiet time.

Specialist resources we have

Small range of sensory equipment but more could be borrowed or purchased.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

I aim to include all children in any activities or outings. I will adapt activities and outings, if necessary to enable all children to take part. Risk assessments are undertaken for outings and activities.
