Deaf Advocacy

All our Advocates are Deaf themselves or fluent in BSL and are able to adjust their communication to meet the needs of the people we work with.

Advocates take action to support people to make informed choices, secure their rights, represent their needs and obtain services. Advocates speak up for people and/or encourage individuals to speak up for themselves.

We can help with issues such as:

  • Making a complaint about any NHS service, which you are unhappy with. This includes dentists, GP’s, Walk-in services and Hospitals. (IHCA- Independent Health Complaints Advocacy).
  • Supporting you to be involved in decisions made about your care and support. (ICAA- Care Act advocacy)
  • Working with parents during custodial or safeguarding proceedings. (Parents Advocacy)
  • Understand your rights under the Mental Health Act (Independent Mental Health Advocacy- IMHA)

For more information on our other advocacy services and locations please see the below link which includes a BSL video: http://www.royaldeaf.org.uk/news/what-is-advocacy/
