Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Observations and assessments for children in our care. Ongoing conversations with parents regarding any concerns they may have. 2 year progress check to be shared with parents and health visitors can identify areas of concern.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Through observations and assessments and with input from parents and other agencies such as health visitors and area senco.

Links we have to other agencies

We have worked with the autism service and with speech and language therapists. We would access any support required through the area senco.

How we support children transferring to school

As this is a small village and setting, most children transfer to the local primary school. We have close links with the reception teacher and the children transferring have planned visits into the classroom before starting school. There is usually a meeting between preschool and school staff at the end of the school year where information is shared re cohort tracking etc. We ensure that a profile of children's strengths and needs are shared with school staff. We talk to parents about any concerns they may have that they feel they cannot convey to school and then discuss with school staff how these may be eased.

Staff have had training in behaviour management; sensory conditions; autism awareness; visual support and Makaton.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We are committed to providing any support that maybe required by parents. All snacks provided are healthy options and drinks are milk or water. We advise on packed lunches provided by parents and monitor children's intake to ensure that they are not overeating. We try to ensure some form of physical exercise every day, preferably outside but the hall is large enough for ride on toys if this is not possible. We provide information about healthy foods and dental care as it becomes available to us.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We are in constant dialogue with parents, usually at pick up time but often in the morning as well. 2 year progress checks are shared with parents to then share with health visitors. Other termly assessments are shared with parents and the Learning journeys are always available for parents to look at via the Tapestry app and can add any comments of their own.

Our complaints policy

We have a complaints policy that is structured to enable parents to follow through concerns if these are not resolved at the first stage.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

It is not our building so we have no say in any Alterations. There is a disabled toilet And changing area being added to thi building while we are off for this summer. The nature of the hall and the fact that we have to set up each day means that we can easily adapt the layout for particular requirements. Previously we welcomed a child with SEN and the equipment is laid out in a way that enabled her mobility and access of resources to be unfettered.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have a side area on the stage which allows for privacy when changing nappies. When we return for the Autumn term there will be a new changing area within the disabled toilet.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All children are welcome to attend trips. Usually parents accompany their children, but if necessary we would arrange for a member of staff to be responsible if this were not the case. At all times we would ensure the correct ratio was maintained for safety purposes.
