Kate Rowlands Childminder
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

My name is Kate and I am an Ofsted Registered childminder in Falmouth.

When I began childminding in 2010 I completed my Paediatric First Aid course and the Introduction to Childminding Practice (ICP) course.  During my first 6 months of registration I also completed my Basic Food Hygiene course.  I continue to update my training in those areas as well as attending training to develop my knowledge and skills with regard to safeguarding children, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), healthy eating, behaviour management etc.

I have my own car to enable us to go out and about within the community.  As well as attending local playgroups we also visit the toy library, bubble room and enjoy outings to the National Maritime Museum, Trebah Gardens, Paradise Park, Newquay Zoo and the Seal Sanctuary.  We live very close to Swanpool Beach and enjoy regular walks around the lake to feed to the ducks.

I have an enclosed garden with a well equipped playhouse and ride on toys and we enjoy spending time out there.

I am able to offer up to 30 hours funded childcare for three and four year olds.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

When a child joins the setting parents will complete an 'All about me' questionnaire where I gather information about the child. We would meet to discuss this information and work together to identify any requirement for additional support.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Using a secure online system which is accessible by the child's parents, I regularly add observations and note the child's progress in a number of areas of learning. I use these observations to identify next steps and then work with parents to ensure we are working together to achieve them. As required by the EYFS, I also provide a 2 Year Progress Check which is completed just before their visit with their Health Visitor.

Links we have to other agencies

Interaction with other agencies is solely dependant on the child's individual needs and always discussed with the parents.

How we support children transferring to school

I support a child's readiness for pre-school and school by working on their self care needs, promoting independence, encouraging their listening and concentration skills and open discussions about their new setting.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

When I began childminding in 2010 I completed my Paediatric First Aid course and the Introduction to Childminding Practice (ICP) course. During my first 6 months of registration I also completed my Basic Food Hygiene course. I continue to update my training in those areas as well as attending training to develop my knowledge and skills with regard to safeguarding children, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), healthy eating, behaviour management etc.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

I encourage healthy eating and promote safety and good hygiene practice. By establishing good relationships with my families I am able to offer advice and support if needed.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

As well as verbal daily feedback, I also use a secure online system to provide written daily diaries and records of progress which are accessible by the parents at any time.

Our complaints policy

I encourage open discussion, however if we could not resolve a complaint I would refer to my complaints policy (a copy of which is available to all parents).

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

I am not able to make any alterations to my house however with only one step to the front door, it is easily accessible for all.

Facilities we have for personal care

I have a downstairs bathroom.

Specialist resources we have

I have plenty of toys, resources and equipment for the ratios, ages and developmental stages of all the children in my care. We also use the toy library for any additional resources we may require.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Through planning, risk assessment and being organised with the correct equipment required I ensure all children are involved in activities and outings.
