Parent Carers Cornwall
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Are you the parent/carer of a child or young person with additional needs or disability?  We aim to provide parents of disabled children and children with additional needs with a "voice" in Cornwall. We aim to ensure parent participation in service planning and delivery. We aim to campaign locally and nationally to improve services for children with additional needs.

Our aim is to gather information from Parent Carers and using these unique shared experiences, we take part in consultations and participation work which helps us to shape the development and delivery of services to our children. We also pass on information to families via a newsletter enabling parent carers to gain greater knowledge and understanding of the services available from health, education, local authority and the voluntary sector.

Inclusion details

How we make our service inclusive

We ensure all activities and events that we organise are completely accessible. We support families across Cornwall.

Staff SEND experience

All staff are trained in supporting families with information, advice and guidance, including claiming benefits and Education, Health and Care Plan, knowledgeable in signposting and enabling the voices of families and children and young people to be heard. Encourage parent participation and challenge over services and developments within them to ensure families with disabled children in Cornwall are part of the changes taking place.

How our service supports providers / schools / colleges

We provide information leaflets and flyers, and can visit and speak to staff and families direct. We produce a newsletter that contains lots of information and updates about services and organisations, and regularly offer support to schools about the services they can access. We also offer support over transition.

Support at key transition points

The PCC supports families across all key transition points and beyond, as families with disabled children in Cornwall need that additional information, advice and support.

Other local or national support

We are a local forum underpinned with a national remit to provide families with children aged 0 - 25 with SEND with help, support and a voice.  We provide information, advice, guidance, support, one to one work, activities and events encouraging socialisation and engagement. We link into many of the key organisations in Cornwall, both statutory and those in the third sector. We have a newsletter that we send to all of our members and encourage all families in Cornwall with disabled children and children with additional needs to join - to ensure they are kept updated.  The PCC leads on key areas of work for families and encourages families to speak out about their experiences so they can be included in development and changes being made in Cornwall.

Resolving disagreements, mediation and making complaints

We do not often get complaints about the service, but we are a member of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums who would support resolution of disagreements and mediation.
